1.3 Calculate Conductor Current Carrying Capacity (CCC)

1.3.1 CCC Using catalogue value of resistance

The Steady-state Current carrying Capacity
DC resistance at the maximal allowable temperature = 423 K 150 oC
Rdc(150oC) 0.0686 Ω/km
𝑅𝑑𝑐 𝑜
150 𝐶
= 𝑅𝑑𝑐 20𝑜𝐶 ∗ (1 + ά *T2-T20)

1.3.2 Determining skin effect coefficient

Skin effect coefficient is given as a function of X, where:

(ABB HANDBOOK.CHAPTER 3 eq.3) X= 1.35783501

Where Rdc shall be considered as Ohm/mile Rdc(150oC) 0.10968896 Ω/mile

Refer to table 1. find coefficient K K= 1.01969

5of15
1.3.3 AC Resistanse at the temperature = 150 oC

RT= Rdc(150oC)*K RT= 0.06990546 Ω/km

1.3.4 The current carrying capacity can be calcutated by equation(8)

𝑃𝑟𝑎𝑑 + 𝑃𝑐𝑜𝑛𝑣 − 𝑃𝑠𝑜𝑙 1Τ2 IEC 61597 Equation (8) Imax= 1848.77 A
𝐼𝑚𝑎𝑥 = [ ]
𝑅𝑇

Current carrying capacity I max 2 x 3698 A < 3150 A

Consider maximal current for outgoing lines = 3150 A

Thus, conductor TACSR-630/45 OK

1.3.5 Temperature in steady-state condition

The heat supplied primarily by Joule losses and solar radiation is equal to the heat dissipated primarily by convection and radiation to the surrounding atmosphere.
The heat balance equation can then be written as:
Psol + Pj = Pconv + Prad

Similarily, the numeric application for steady-state temperature at the rated current can be find by solving the equotion:
The calculation is done in an iterative way to solve the equations and find the adequate conductor temperature for a fixed current.
Conducor's temperature at the rated current T rated I = 396 K

𝑃𝑠𝑜𝑙 = γ𝐷𝑆𝑖 Psol= 19.40625 W/m

𝑃𝑟𝑎𝑑 = 𝑠𝜋𝐷𝐾𝑒 (𝑇𝑟𝑎𝑡𝑒𝑑 𝐼 − 𝑇1 ) Prad= 49.0035454 W/m

P J =K*R dc(20)* (1+ a *T rated.I -293)*(I nom /N) 2 PJ= 161.73097 W/m

Where R dc(20) 0.0000467 Ω/m
