Letter of Motivation for Self Defense Firearm

The firearm in question is a MAKE MODEL, (calibre), serial__________

The reasons for me requiring a firearm are as follows:

1. I live in a remote area. Crime has been increasingly severe with


regular break-ins including incidents where the residents are home.
2. We currently have no self-defense weapons in our home.
3. My wife and I are in our 50’s and would be unable to defend ourselves
by any other means.
4. I often drive at night or alone

I have studied South African firearm law in detail and am well aware that I
am only allowed to use a firearm in defense of my life, only with due
warning and only if there is no other option.

I am aware that a firearm must be concealed at all times and locked in my


safe when not in my immediate company.

1. I currently own a hand-gun for self defense but it is not suited to the
shooting sport that I participate in due to its size and limited capacity.
2. I am a member of SHOOTING CLUB NAME
3. I compete at club and league shoots on a monthly basis
4. See attached letter from the club chairman confirming my participation
and reasons for requiring this gun.

I have studied South African firearm law in detail and am well aware that I
am only allowed to use a firearm in defense of my life, only with due
warning and only if there is no other option.

I am aware that a firearm must be concealed at all times and locked in my


safe when not in my immediate company.

1. I currently own a hand-gun for self defense but it is not suited to the

2. I also own a MAKE MODEL with which I already participate in IPSC
production division
3. The reason I require a second sporting firearm is because I wish to
also participate in classic division, which requires a 1911

Affidavit from Chairman for sporting gun

I, ______________________________________ state that NAME SURNAME is a fully


paid and participating member of CLUB NAME

He is competing in IPSC at club level but his self-defense firearm is inadequate for this
sport. He requires a gun with at least a 15 round capacity, a longer barrel and a
hammer such as the MAKE MODEL.

NAME SURNAME is a responsible individual, I cannot fault his safety and ethics and I
support his motivation for this firearm
