Gibb’s Reflective Cycle
Description
As a second-year student we should have our community health nursing physically but due
to Covid-19 it cannot be done. Therefore, our own families were being interviewed as if we
are performing the home visit. It is now our third clinical rotation; we already expected a lot
of works or requirements. Since we had our community health nursing in our own homes, it
had given us time to talk about and spend time in the family and help intensive or time-
consuming household chores. Our Clinical Instructor held a video conference online though
it did not go well since the internet was not that stable though she had given enough and
clear instructions in doing the requirements given and the Clinical Instructor can be easily
approached any time. We tackled on how to make the requirements such as home visit plan
and how it is done, and I was able to apply what I learned in prelims in regard to
community health nursing specifically with community health nursing laboratory and was
able to apply what I learned to the family or to the clientele of the home visit. We will be
then defending our formulated home visit one on one with our clinical instructor.
Feeling
I felt sad and happy at the same time knowing that we will not have our community health
nursing physically because of the current situation the world is facing but have our families to
be conducted in our home visit plan. Happy because I got to spend the time with helping the
household chores though I live with my aunt and uncle they participated in my home visit
though there were some part of the house that I was not able to assess because It was limited
to them only, and then I decided to do the individual case requirements with my parents with
the help of my mom and through a video call, they had their own weighing scale and measuring
tape so I was able to see their and take note of their physical assessments. It was a busy day
since we should take pictures on how we conducted the home visit. And I feel a bit of nervous
because we will be defending our home visit plan one on one with the clinical instructor.
Though instructions were clear, and time given was enough to make and complete the
requirements I still doubt my answers and myself.
Evaluation
Given the situation of the community health nursing it was both a positive and negative
experience. It was positive because we were still able to perform the home visit, and negative
because we did not had the chance to experience it physically, and in what I mean physically
having other families that are new to us to be conducted in the home visit. I had minor
problems of the home visit because my parents are away and can only be reached by ride from
a plan or ship, which is not allowed because of the current situation. I had my aunt and uncle
participate the home visit instead though assessments were limited such as condition of their
rooms and to observe in a short amount of time because they leave the house very often.
Though I was able to contact my parents with the help of internet and presence of materials to
be normally used in a home visit. In regard to the requirements it went well because clinical
instructor is easily approachable, and requirements were given clearly and in detail.
Analysis
On reflection, I realized that even faced with tough challenges there is no reason to surrender
but to find ways and face the situation because everybody has their own problems and should
be solved by facing them and these experiences help us grow. And even though the community
health nursing is conducted with our own families it had relevant idea and experience from the
regular home visit. The time I conducted the home visit I just noticed that sometimes I forgot to
make a call to my parents now and then because I had only focused on my assessments and to
take time and threat myself by a little walk and playing games. Also, time runs fast and its
precious, and an hour of trying is better instead an hour of procrastinating. I procrastinated for
hours thinking I may not be able to do it because my parents are away. Though there are
people around me that can be of use. Also in the means that our clinical instructor is
approachable it helps built the rapport towards us students to the instructor and the rapport
between teacher and student is especially strong due to the various roles teachers have in
terms of nurturing, discipline, teaching, and evaluating. And instructors had improved a
student’s performance because formation of meaningful relationships with students.
Conclusion
To what I have experienced, procrastination kills a lot of time and it is better to try it before
actually thinking that you may perhaps not be able to do it. I am still in the process of learning
and every day and every clinical rotation is a new experience worth remembering. In doing the
homework or assessments one should not just give time to self but also to pay attention to our
surrounding and to our families.
Action Plan
In the following clinical exposures, I will ensure that I will try to do the tasks given instead of
procrastinating and be sure to make time for not just self but to family as well. And to take
every minute as a precious thing and I must spend the time wisely. And also to set schedules or
do time management to accomplish more in a shorter period of time, that perhaps leads to
more free time, which lets you take advantage of learning opportunities or time to spend self
and family.
