4. A wheel with 10 metallic spokes each 0.50 m long is rotated with a speed of
120 rpm in a plane normal to the earth’s magnetic field at a place. If the
magnitude of the field is 0.40 × 10−4 T,what is the induced emf between the
axle and the rim of the wheel?
Answer

6. An air-cored solenoid with length 30 cm, area of cross section 25 cm2 and
number of turns 500 carries a current of 2.5A. The current is switched off in a
brief time of 1ms. How much is the average emf induced across the ends of
the open switch of the circuit?
Answer
𝜇0 = 4𝜋 × 10−7
𝑁 = 500; 𝑖 = 2.5 𝐴; 𝑙 = 30 × 10−2 𝑚
𝜇0 𝑁𝑖
𝐵 = 𝜇0 𝑛𝑖 = = 5.24 × 10−3 T
