H.E 101- HOUSEHOLD MANAGEMENT
MODULE 2- Lesson 2
1. Expound human resources and non- human resources.
Human Resources are the capacities and characteristics of an individual. These can be used only by the person who possesses them. They have the high potential to achieve what we want and many a times may not be cultivated or made available. Most of the time, families underestimate these resources and are unaware of them. Knowledge is important to be aware of things to be able to achieve what we want. If we want to buy a T.V. we need to know what features to look for, brands available. This will help in buying a better quality product, Time is constant for everyone, 24 hours a day. The way a person man-ages and uses her time is her personal choice. A student may finish all the work before going to play; another may waste his time watching television or talking on the cell phone, Energy is both mental and physical power of a person. To achieve goals, one needs to plan, organize and finally implement the plans. This would require both mental and physical energy, Abilities/Skills are inherited and acquired. These may include skills like cooking, decorating, gardening. Each individual has particular abilities with which he/ she can achieve his/her goals. These skills can also be developed by systematic learning and practice. And Attitude are opinions or feelings of a person towards a thing which may hinder or help in achieving his goals. A positive attitude may help a person achieve what he wants whereas a negative attitude may hinder her in achieving what she wants. Non-human Resources are tools and assets that families have at their disposal to achieve what they want. These are available for everyone to use. A person works hard and earns money to be used by him and his family. He/she may buy material goods or land from this money and may build a house on this land. Community facilities like banks, post offices, parks, and library. These are tangible and are more identifiable. Money it is the pivotal resource which can be exchanged to buy material things, commodities and services. It can also be used for future use and thus gives a sense of security to the family, Material goods it include durable goods or perishable goods used and owned by a family in their everyday use. Land, house, furniture and vehicle are examples. These help to make life easier and more comfortable for all family members. Durable goods like land can also help families to earn or save money. If vegetables are grown on land, the family can save money on buying vegetables or sell these vegetables to earn money. And Community facilities are those facilities which are common for all members of a community. Parks, libraries, post office, police and fire protection, banks, hospitals, transport facilities, roads, railways, electricity, water supply, markets, community centers and ration shops are examples of community facilities. All families can avail these facilities without directly paying for them but indirectly paying for them through taxes. 2. What benefits you can get by acquiring ideas on family resources. Acquiring ideas on family resources helps us to get knowledge that they get from their own experiences which we don’t know yet just like advices from our parents which may lead us to be a better person. And to make it aware of our decision in life, 3. How will you utilize your resources wisely? I can utilize my resource wisely by not planning 100% of my time. Because there are so many unexpected events can happen which will require my attention. If my calendar is already filled with activities from morning till evening, how can I handle those important and urgent activities? Chance are this situation will stress me out. I should start with the most important priority. This will be my biggest activity and will require my most attention. This activity is also the one that will get me closer in achieving my work or personal goals. I should identify my peak times. When I know when my body and mind are most alert, I can carry out and focus best on these crucial activities. Non- essential activities like filling or mopping the floor don’t need to be performed when I’m at my best. I focus on one activity, I don’t multi-task. We know that working on one topic while attending occasion or activities on another topic is counter- productive. I should be mindful of what I am doing and only focus on that one activity. If being pulled into two directions at work or studying, is it possible to delegate one of these two activities? Do i really need to attend that occasion or could I stay and study and ask others who attend about regarding the location? Block time in my calendar for me. These block can be for working on a particular projects and study, calling back my classmates or keeping it free for unexpected activities and projects. This not only works at a student but also in my personal life. If I and my family is running from one event to another event 7 days a week, I can get exhausted very easily and are reducing my energy resources. Especially during Christmas and New Year many invitation are waiting for me: with my family, my classmates, my friends, and neighbours. Can I combine any of these events? Can I bring a friend to a family party and invite them to my home? Sometimes this may not be appropriate, however when combining two group activities. It frees up some of my time and take less energy. I should take breaks. To recharge my energy and sharpen my focus, set myself limits. My resources cannot go for hours and need some refuelling. A tea break or a walk around may be what I have time for. I need to make time! Let my eyes rest by looking away from my computer screen and cell phone and starring into a good and fresh surrounding.
