    1. Describe the narrator. How old is he, where does he live, what is his life like, etc.

    2. What does he mean when the narrator remarks, “I wasn’t a malicious child, by any means, but I
    liked to be able to take out my comforts and study them by the light of others’ misfortunes”? 

    3. Why does the narrator stick close to the house? What is he worried about? 

    4. Why is the narrator afraid of pneumonia in particular? What is he implying might happen?

    5. Why does the narrator drink down the medicine? What does he realize after he’s done it?

    6. What changes do we see in the narrator throughout the story? Quote at least two different sets
    of changes.

    7. Is the narrator mature or immature? Is the narrator’s voice that of a little boy or an adult?

    8. Do you agree that “a miracle” happened? Is there a lesson to this story?
