development of an analysis-based essay.

Given William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, students will analyze at least three themes to discuss in an essay.
¨ How will you assess if your student achieved mastery of the lesson objective?
¨ Determine the type of demonstration/activity the student will use to demonstrate mastery of the objective.
¨ What is the condition and degree, the setting or situation in which the student will be able to express the depth and extent of
learning?
¨ What is an exemplar student responses with the level of detail you expect to see?
I want students to accomplish this by the creation of an analysis-based essay that they will need to have done
within a week of starting this lesson.
Opening Activity
¨ How will you activate student interest?
¨ How will you connect and uncover prior knowledge?
¨ How will you present the lesson objective in an engaging and student-friendly way?
Teacher will ask students to share, in a quick-fire round, words they associate with Romeo and

the same; students can use their graphic organizer as a
guide. Teacher will explain to students that they will do the
same on their computer document of the play and a Word
document. Students will use act summaries from previous
lessons to search for their own theme and teacher will
show how to do so. Teacher will then write up a short
paragraph that will form part of a bigger essay.
As an exit ticket, students will write on a half sheet of paper one of their themes and what it contributes to
the play or why they think it is important. Their knowledge will also be analyzed through their essays at the
end of the week.
