Barring Instructions for Engines

DT2H-UFAA60, UFAA92, UFAA98 -


Remove the (2) M6x16mm bolts from the belt guard in order to remove the cover plate and
access the crank pulley.

Use a ¾” square drive extension to bar the engine over.

DT2H-UFAA20, UFAA58, UFAA50, UFAA88 -
Start removing the belt guard by taking out the M8x65mm in the top right corner. Then remove
the (2) M6x20mm bolts in the lower left side and the M6x16mm in the lower right hand side of
the guard.

Use a 1 ¼ ” socket to bar the engine over.

When reinstalling the belt guard torque the M8x65mm bolt to 20 ft lbs.

Remove the (2) M6x16mm bolts from the belt guard in order to remove the cover plate and
access the crank pulley.

Use a ¾” square drive extension to bar the engine over.

All JU4 and JU6 –
The barring hole is located below left hand starter.

Insert John Deere barring tool # JDE81-1

All JW Models –
The barring hole is located on the right hand side behind the primary fuel filter. The primary fuel
filter must be removed in order to insert barring tool.

Insert John Deere barring tool # JDG820

All JX Models -
The barring hole is located on the right hand side behind the primary fuel filter.

Insert John Deere barring tool # JDG820

All C18 Models -
The barring tool uses the unused starter pocket on the right hand side of the engine.

Remove the cover from the starter pocket. Install Caterpillar barring tool #448-5087.

DP and DQ engines do not have a barring tool option.
