Study Tour
During our tour in Philippine Carabao Center (PCC) Gene Pool, first thing I’ve
learned that they are taking care almost five hundreds Buffalos came from three origin
genes: Bulgarian, Italian and Brazilian. The three were imported a long time ago and the
batched they are taking care of are their 34 th generation. I also learned that a one buffalo
can produce 6-8 litter milk in one day. Next, I watched how the laborers were getting
milk from buffalo. Lastly, before we headed to Milkakrem, I learned why PCC was
established.

On Milkakrem, the manager explained to us the steps of how some products


were done like pastillas, cheese, dairy milk, and more. At first, I didn’t know that making
such products was so complicated like you have to get the right temperature or else
there’ll be a problem. I learned that not all the milk from carabao is allowed to be a
dairy product. It will be test first if it’s a high quality of milk or it’s just a branded A.
Then, its right temperature and storage for the milk be not spoiled. Next, the packaging,
one thing that I’m amazed was the time of producing products are not the time
consuming if you have machines like I saw in the Milkakrem. Overall, I learned how the
milk is being tested first, to its process then to the result, product.

The study tour encouraged me to that kind of business because of their mandate,
mission and vision, My grandfather owns a carabao and the study tour inspired me to
talk to my grandfather about the benefits of his carabao. Also, for the rural farmers, for
them to believe and encourage that they are not only ‘farmers’ but also their carabao
can be a source of milk, meat and also to help them in their living. On our running
business, I will surely offer my support to help ensure implementation in “Promoting
Sustainable Agriculture and Agripreneurship among the Youth from Marginalized
Farming Communities”.
