Lacquer Paint

When using same type of paint, apply topcoat gently
I used Tamiya Lacquer Paints for the first time on Tamiya's fabulous 1:35 Type 16 MCV
armoured car kit. I wanted to try the new materials to gain first-hand experience and I was
extremely impressed. During airbrushing, the paints behave in a similar manner to the 'XF'
Acrylic range, quickly building up into an opaque layer of colour on the model's surface.
I thinned them to about the same ratio as I would with Tamiya's Acrylics, approximately 60%
paint to 40% thinner, although other users may prefer different mixes. For my test, I used
Tamiya's Lacquer Thinner Retarder Type (87194). This solvent slightly slows the rate at which
the paint dries, allowing the freshly-sprayed paint to settle on the model's surface, creating a
super-smooth, continuous film of colour.
Once fully dry (quicker than the Acrylic paints), the Lacquer Paint formed a flawless,
impressively tough finish that adhered with a limpet-like grip on the plastic of the model.
If you are familiar with Tamiya's Acrylics, you'll feel at home with this new line, which
combines the same ease of use with an extra robustness.
