    BIOMEDICAL MODEL

     It is a systematic and scientific model which focuses only in biological factors of health,

    such as genetics and mutation, age, bacterial and viral infection, and parasitism, in

    diagnosis and curing with a goal of restoring health of an individual.

     The basic assumptions underlying the biomedical perspective are that all events in life

    have a cause and effect, that the human body functions much like a machine, and that

    all of reality can be observed and measure (eg. Blood pressures, PaO2 levels,

    intelligence tests)

     Have been evolving for many years leading to improvements in medical science,

    technology, and increase in cures and treatment

     Emphasis in diagnosis and treating individuals separating from their lifestyle or living

    condition – this model of health concentrates on the disease, illness or disability and

    attempts to cure or return the physical health of the person to a pre-illness state

     The biomedical or scientific model/approach prevails in most health care settings.
