Ecopetrol aims to be the premier independent E&P company in Latin America. The major
strategic focus of the Company is sustainable growth. The Company is able to achieve this
growth by combining the expertise and talents of its people with a high-quality portfolio of
assets to support further sustainable, responsible and profitable creation of value.

HISTORY
Ecopetrol emerged from the reversal of the Seas Award in 1951, and then became a national
enterprise integrated until the seventies, with modest technical capacity to grow aggressively.
Later he emphasized self-sufficiency and concentrated in the upstream, with initially positive
results then vanished. Conversion to Ecopetrol SA in 2003, has allowed him to redesign its
business portfolio and compete in the upstream with new contracts.
The scientific and research activities of Ecopetrol in the ICP stimulates the constant generation
of technology products that meet the needs of the business and are embodied in methods,
processes, products, equipment, tools and software, among others.
This scientific production includes technological strengths successfully applied in the operation
of Ecopetrol, which have been installed, implemented and maintained in accordance with the
insurance model of knowledge and processes of protection of intellectual property.
