Alternate Ending of The Story
POINT OF VIEW: IF DELLA FOUND OUT THAT JIM WOULD BUY HER A COMB
Narrator: Like pendulum balls, Della paced back and forth inside their home. She looks
out the window sadly as she notices that the darkness slowly eats the day. She turns her
gaze into their clock. It’s almost dinner time. She decides to go and find her husband.
Della: Where could Jim be? I must swiftly walk to the streets of London to find him.
Narrator: As if her feet had wings, Della trotted down the streets, into the alleys, and
finally outside the window of the beautiful store where combs are sold, she found her dear
husband.
At first, she was skeptic like a curious little kitten. But as she observed, she realized that
her husband is going to purchase the expensive combs she has been dying to have!
Della: But where will he get money for it? We have been short of finances these past few
days!
Narrator: So Della promptly walked to her husband and confronted him gently.
Della: Jim, my dear! Are you going to buy these beautiful combs for me?
Della: But dear, how are you going to pay for these lovely combs? We have been short of
finances lately.
Jim: I was checking how much all these would cost so I can find a good price of the watch
my father used to give me. Afterall, it’s Christmas time dear! It’s a one in a million holiday.
Della: Jim, our love grows sweeter as days go by, just as wines taste better as it ages.
But darling, I don’t need you to splurge much for a gift. I can wait until we have better
budget. Christmas gifts don’t always have to be material things, this year we can share a
