About top two fashion centers-
Paris For 2015, Paris bumped New York from the number one spot to become the world’s top fashion capital. This is not surprising, the city of lights is home to many of the top 50 fashion schools in the world—Ecole de la Chambre Syndicale, Istituto Marangoni (also Milan and London campuses), ESMOD-Paris (23 schools located in 15 countries around the world), Paris College of Art and Studio Bercot are just a few. Next, some of the most famous fashion designers in the world are French—Yves Saint Laurent, Hubert de Givenchy, Karl Lagerfeld, Jean-Paul Gaultier, Christian Dior, Pierre Cardin, Coco Chanel, Rene Lacoste, and Christian Louboutin top the list. Besides this, the world’s largest fashion magazine (Elle) launched in Paris in 1945 and still has headquarters there, along with 44 editions around the world. Finally, the world’s grandest fashion show is held biannually in Paris—the celebrated Paris Fashion Week. Despite fashion design starting in 19th century, it was long before that that the first fashion publication was published. In 1672 Mercure Galant was the first fashion magazine that regularly offered comments on the latest clothing styles and was read throughout Europe. French also invented beautiful illustrations, called fashion plates, which showed the latest garments and served as guide books for tailors. By the end of the century, many Parisian printers began selling fashion plates, or engravings of fashionable clothes. New York New York is and always will be a top four fashion capital, but the Big Apple couldn’t quite hold on to the lead over its toughest competition—Paris. Still, number two is never a bad thing and New York is still shining brighter than ever. We all know New York is the world’s culture center in every way, but when it comes to fashion, every city in every corner of the world follows New York—even Paris can admit that! Like Paris, New York is home to a number of the top 50 fashion schools in the world. Parsons School of Design, Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), and Pratt Institute School of Design are the heaviest hitters. Next, some of the most famous fashion designers in the world were born in, reside in or have other ties to New York. Ralph Lauren, Donna Karan, Marc Jacobs, Tom Ford, Vera Wang, Betsey Johnson, Carolina Herrera, Jason Wu, Tory Burch, Anna Sui, Bill Blass, Isaac Mizrahi, Geoffrey Beene, and Narcisco Rodriguez are just a few. Finally, another grand fashion show, and among the top four in the world, is New York Fashion Week. Held in February and September each year, the show attracts the biggest names in fashion—from yesterday to today. The event has been going strong since 1943, making it the very first fashion show of its kind. Indian Fashion Designer Masaba Gupta Masaba Gupta is one of the rare Fashion designers to create a niche in demanding and crowded Indian fashion industry, at a very young age. Born in 1989, Masaba began her fashion journey reluctantly in 2009, when she was still a fashion student at SNDT Women University. Starting of her career Her unique approach towards couture and flamboyant use of prints got her noticed and with the encouragement and support of her mentors, Anil Chopra and Wendell Rodricks, she debuted at Wills Lifestyle Fashion week 2009. Masaba is the youngest designer unveiled by Wills fashion week and an instant success there, abided her to launch her label ‘Masaba’. Her first collection under the label ‘Masaba’ was ‘Kattran’, which was featured in Lakme Fashion Week 2010 Spring/ Summer. Her collection was like a fresh breeze of change from the heavily embellished ethnic wears dominant on Indian ramps. Masaba Gupta became the youngest fashion creative director, when she joined Satya Paul in 2012. Specialization Bohemian traits of her personality can be seen all over her designs and she is thoroughly dedicated to prêt a porter style. Her signature style flaunts neat and quirky silhouettes and distinct use of dupattas like drapes in gowns and skirt ensembles. Masaba Gupta collections are marked out by bold retro styled prints, which are a much welcomed change from prevalent embroidery and zardosi work. She has brought a new contemporary dimension to the Indian ramps with her fluid and audacious designs, truly accentuating the free spirit of the new generation of Indian women. 'Masaba'- Her Label The label made its fashion week debut at Lakme Fashion week, titled Gen next. The strength of the label lies in the ability to marry traditional Indian sensibilities and aesthetics while keeping the modern context alive. Since its inception the label has worked intensively with prints, and the ability to turn mundane everyday objects into prints has been the strongest USP of the label which have translated into huge trends in the country. With the target age group between 18-30yrs the label has also worked to make the traditional Indian silhouette of the sari more consumer friendly. Apart from being an ever evolving label we have worked with weavers from many remote areas in India like Himachal, Bangalore and Hyderabad and created woven designs. The biggest plus of the silhouettes are that they are age versatile as well as those that can be easily worn around the world. The fabrics used are extremely lightweight and easygoing and Indian textile and handloom merged with quirky, outlandish prints in vibrant colors with comfortable & fuss free garment construction is our main area of expertise. International Fashion Designer Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana Domenico Dolce was born in Polizzi Generosa (near Palermo, Sicily) on 13 September 1958. His family owned a small clothing business, where Domenico worked from childhood. Stefano Gabbana was born in Milan on 14 November 1962. He studied graphics but soon turned to fashion. After a brief period working as assistant designers, they founded the Dolce & Gabbana label, which had its first runway show as part of the New Talent group in Milan in 1985, upon the invitation of Italian fashion promoter Beppe Modenese. Dolce and Gabbana's First Collection In 1986 they produced their first collection, called "Real Women." In 1987 they launched their knitwear line and in 1989 their beachwear and lingerie lines. Beginning in 1988 they produced their ready-to- wear line in Domenico Dolce's family-owned atelier, located in Legnano, Milan. The first Dolce & Gabbana men's collection appeared in 1990. In 1994 they launched the D&G label, inspired by street style and a more youthful look. The Dolce and Gabbana Style Designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana have developed Dolce & Gabbana into one of the fashion industry’s most prominent labels. Their unique design aesthetic of feminine sensuality and exotic Mediterranean characteristics provide a contemporary take on fashion that has attracted an elite celebrity following. Some of their design signatures and trademarks include the reinterpretation of intimate garments as outerwear, animal prints and taking inspiration from ‘real women’ — for several seasons’ campaigns and runway shows, the pair have cast ordinary men and women, typically from their native Italy.
