A transmission line has 2.5 pF of capacitance per foot and 100 nH of inductance per foot.
Calculate its characteristic impedance.
Zo = √L / C Zo = √100 x 10^-9 / 2.5 x 10^-12 Zo = 200 ohms

Two wires with air as a dielectric are one inch apart. The diameter of the wire is .04 inch.
Calculate, approximately, its characteristic impedance.
Zo = 276 log(D/r) Zo = 276 log( 1 / 0.04 ) Zo = 386 ohms

If a coaxial cable uses plastic insulation with a dielectric constant=2.6 , what is the velocity factor
for the cable?

Vf = 1 / √∊r Vf = 1 / √2.6 Vf = 0.62

If a cable has a velocity factor of 0.8, how long would it take a signal to travel 3000 kilometers
along the cable?
Vp = 3 x 10^8 x 0.8 Vp = 240 x 10^6 T = 3000 x 10^3 / 240 x 10^6 T = 12.5 ms

A cable has a VSWR of 10. If the minimum voltage along the cable is 20 volts, what is the
maximum voltage along the cable?
VSWR = Vmax / Vmin Vmax = 10 x 20 Vmax = 200 volts

A lossless line has a characteristic impedance of 50 ohms, but is terminated with a 75-ohm
resistive load. What SWR do you expect to measure?

SWR = ZL / Zo SWR = 75 / 50 SWR = 1.5
