DP820 Configuration Manual

DP820 Incremental Pulse Counter Module

Configuration Manual

Description
DP820 module consists of 2 identical and independent channels for pulse and frequency
measurement.

• 2 channels
• Interface with RS422 , 5V , 12V , 24V and 13mA transducer signal
• Simultaneous pulse and frequency measurement
• 29 bit bidirectional counter for pulse count by accumulation
• Frequency measurement of 0.25 Hz to 1.5 MHz

Pulse Based Totalizer for Flow Transmitter

The settings of the DP820 are as shown below:

• Pulse mode selection use A:UP/B:Down

• The Flow transmitter pulse output is totalized in the Pulse counter
• Hence the following settings were made in the flow transmitter o 1 pulse per 0.01 kg
(Based on the Accuracy) o 15 ms pulse width (Based on max pulses per second
/Frequency output of Flow transmitter)

The parameter connections are as follows:-

DP820 Configuration Manual

• The counter value in channel 5 and 6 shall be the totalized flow from the pulse input.
• The variable connected in the channel 5 times the unit per pulse shall be totalizer output.
• For Eg:- FT_83901_P * 0.01 = FIQ_83901
• The frequency value input shall be obtained in Channel 17 and 18

• The range for frequency channel can be obtained from the following formula :-

• Frequency can only be scaled and hence following formula shall give us the scaled input
to which frequency can be estimated.
o Min = A1 + (A2 – A1)/(F2 – F1) * (Fmin– F1)
Max = A2 + (A2 – A1)/(F2 – F1) * (Fmax – F2) o
A1 = minimum value of the process unit
A2 = maximum value of the process unit
F1 = Input frequency at A1
F2 = Input frequency at A2
Fmin = Input frequency at 0% in the scaling algorithm = 0 Hz PROFIBUS
CI830 and -1.5 MHz for ModuleBus and PROFIBUS CI801 and CI840
Fmax = Input frequency at 100% in the scaling algorithm = 1.5Mhz
• The Flow transmitter must be configured for the frequency input and frequency for
Kg/min. flow should be fixed.
• The frequency value from the channel must be then used to totalize the flow in the logic.
• For Eg.: For a flow of 1kg/min if the frequency of 10 Hz is configured in the Flow
transmitter, then The range of the frequency channel be -150000.0 to 150000.0 The
Process connections are as follows for 8 channel TB used with TU810 :-

• Connect the two cables from the frequency output / pulse output of the Flow transmitter
to the 1st TB for channel 1 and 5th TB to use channel 2 of DP820 module.
• Channel 1 of DP820 totalized value is obtained in the Counter value CH1 (Hardware
channel 5 in Connections [FT_83901_P])
• Channel 2 of DP820 totalized value is obtained in the Counter value CH2 (Hardware
channel 6 in Connections [FT_83902_P])

Logical Expressions
The Counter value CH1 can be reset using the following set of instructions:

• Reset pulse Counter Condition [ Channel 31 ] = 1

• Reset pulse Counter [Channel 29 ] = True

DP820 Configuration Manual

• The counter Value CH1 [Channel 5] will become 0

• Pulse Counter reseted [channel 13] shall become true
• Ack. pulse counter reseted = 1
• Then the pulse counter reseted shall automatically become false
• Reset pulse Counter Condition = 0
• Reset pulse Counter = False
• Counter Overflow [Channel 7] shall be true when the counter is overflow.
• To reset the overflow the value of reset counter overflow [Channel 21] must be made
true.
