CHAPTER 6 CONSTRUCTION WORK 6.1 CASTING OF SEGMENTS The casting of the sections is done in a single pour. All sections will
be marked inside with unique identification The Tolerances shall not exceed the following: Length of match-cast segment (not cumulative) –
25 mm Length of totally assembled span – ±2.5 mm Web Thickness – ±10 mm Depth of Bottom Slab – ±10 mm Depth of Top flange – ±6
mm Overall Top Flange Width – ±25 mm Diaphragm Thickness – ±12 mm Tendon hole Location – ±3 mm Position of Shear Keys – ±6 mm
6.2 HANDLING OF SEGMENTS The concession will be responsible for the proper handling, lifting, storage, transport and rigidity of all
sections so that they can be placed in the structure without damage. Areas should be maintained in an upright position at all times and
stored, elevated and / or moved to prevent breakage and other unwanted stress. Members will be elevated, loaded or stored with the lifting
equipment indicated on the shop maps reviewed by IE. The stresses induced at any stage of construction shall not exceed 50% of the
weight achieved at that stage. In addition, the following limitations will be observed: This part will not be lifted from the casting bed until the
concrete has reached the required strength; The age of the concrete should not be less than 14 days at the time of its hardening and should
have reached its specified 28-day strength. However, if the offeror has any alternative proposals, Frameworks will be reviewed by IE. 6.3
TRANSPORTATION AND ERECTION OF SEGMENTS The movement of sections on the road is done at night or early in the morning, thus
minimizing the obstruction to traffic at ground level. A sufficient number of mobile cranes of sufficient capacity and elevation length will be
assembled by the supplier in the casting yards. Transportation and movement of units at ground level will be handled by low bed trailers.
Sections should be elevated and assembled by Launching Girders (LG). Adequate LGs will be assembled for rigidity to meet the
requirement of target milestones. Areas will not be moved from the casting yard until all healing and strength requirements are met, and
they will be supported to minimize combat. Before starting any rigidity of the sections, the full load of boot girders, lifts and temporary
holding hardware will be tested to prove the adequacy of this equipment. The bidder may propose any alternative erection plan and submit it
for consideration by an independent engineer 6.4 SAFETY PRECAUTIONS Safety is very important as moving traffic has to handle heavy
loads. The offer will enforce a strict security system with all necessary precautions and instructions (safety equipment, nets, trains, personal
protective equipment, proper training for workers, first aid, etc.). No unskilled / untrained personnel should be engaged on site to perform
important tasks above ground level flow traffic. The offer is solely responsible for ensuring site safety during construction.. 6.5 BATCHING
PLANT Fig. 6.1 Batching Plant A batching plant is an equipment that combines various materials to form a mixture called concrete. Some of
these materials are sand, aggregates (rocks, gravels etc), sand, GGBS, cement, water. Semi-automatic batching plants of 30cum/hr and 60
cum/hr capacity have been established in the casting yard. Designing of plants i.e maximum capacity can be decided by knowing of Site
requirements. The concrete produced is then loaded into Transit Mixer and dispatched to the desired location. M50 grade of concrete is
used for both segments and I girders 6.6 STEPS ADOPTED IN CONSTRUCTING THE METRO COLUMN 1. Excavation 2. Laying of
concrete low strength material 3. Curing 4. Construction of footing 5. Construction of pedestal 6. Shuttering work for pier 7. Pier construction
8. Curing 6.7 EXCAVATION Excavation carried out by the Proclainer Dimensions of excavation: Depth = 4.5m The magnitude of the
expansion = 10 m x 8 m After the completion of the excavation by proclainer the land leveled by the laborers. Fig. 6.2 Excavation for metro

process was completed. CLSM material is a mixture of fly ash, stone dust and cement, and there is no use of aggregates. For curing
process taking 7 days. Dimensions of the CLSM bed: Depth=2.5m Size of the CLSM bed=6m x 5.5m CLSM also called as PCC. Fig. 6.3

sealing work for placing the concrete mix is completed, the RMC (Ready Mix Concrete) is poured with the machine. And then vibrated.M40
grade concrete and Fe500 grade steel are used. The concrete mix comes from the MSM Batching Plant by RMC vehicles. Fig. 6.6 Footing

concrete details for pedestal are similar to footing. This is provided for the purpose of not shifting loads directly into position. Upcoming
loads are first applied to the pedestal and then transferred to the footing. This is also known as the second footing. Fig. 6.7 Pedestal
