Lesson 1: The Eyes, Nose, Ears
Guide Card
Introduction
Hello! I’m Eyera Matangbaka. My friends used to call me Eye-
Eye. We love playing hide and seek especially during full moon.
Do you know which part of my body I use to find my playmates?
Yes, I use my bright eyes to quickly find them.
You also have eyes, just like me. Likewise, you are indeed
lucky because you’re able to see all the beautiful things that surround you.
Do you want to know the different parts of the eye? Come! Join me as I
visit the world of the eyes to learn more about their parts that help us see.
Come on! Let’s, learn and enjoy!!
Learning Objectives
• Describe the parts and functions of the sense organs of the human body.
• Enumerate the healthful habits to protect the sense organs.

What’s New
Each human has 5 sense organs. These are the skin, ears, nose, tongue and
eyes. We use our eyes for seeing. They are the reason why we are able to
distinguish which are pretty and ugly, clean and dirty, organized and messy,
bright and dark.
Our eyes help us a lot in our daily lives that’s why we have to take good care
of them.
Some of the things that we can do are as follows:
1. Read in a place with enough light.
2. Keep them away from sharp and pointed objects.
3. Do not rub them when they are itchy, wash them with clean water
instead.
4. Stop reading when you’re inside a moving vehicle.
5. Eat more yellow fruits and vegetables which are rich in Vitamin A.
Discussion of Activity
Our eyes have different parts and each part has its function and they are
as follows:
CORNEA- is the transparent part that covers the front portion of the eye.
SCLERA- is the white part of the eyes that surrounds the cornea.
PUPIL- is a hole located at the center of the iris, that allows light to strike the retina.
LENS- is located behind the iris and pupil. It focuses the light and images on the
retina.
RETINA- is a thin layer of tissue that lines the back of the eye on the inside. It
receives light that the lens has focused, and converts the light into
neutral signals.
VITREOUS HUMOUR- is the transparent gelatinous tissue filling the eyeball behind
the lens.
OPTIC NERVE- transfers visual information from the retina to the centers of the
brain.

Parts of the Ear and their Functions
Hi kids! How are you doing? By the way, I am Earl. I’m fond
of listening classical music using my ears. I feel happy especially
when my Mom sings for me. How about you? What are the
sounds that give joy to your heart?
I know you have learned a lot in your journey with Eyera.
Now, I also want you to join me as I visit the world of the ear.
Let us discover how the different parts of the ear work together so we can
hear soft and loud sounds everywhere. Let us find out the things we can do to
protect our ears. Come and learn with me.
Learning Objectives
• Describe the parts and functions of the sense organs of the human body.
• Enumerate the healthful habits to protect the sense organs.

Lesson 2: The Tongue
Guide Card
Introduction
There are lots of different food we eat. These foods have different taste.
But how can you determine the taste of the food you eat? We have a sense
organ that work for it. It has different parts and functions to do its work. Come and
join me to discover what it is!!
Learning Objectives
Describe the parts and functions of the sense organs of the human body.
Identify the parts and functions of the tongue.
Read the following questions and answer them in your Science notebook.
1. What is the sense organ that tells us the different smells around us?
2. Aside from smelling, what is the other function of the nose?
Activity Card
•Get a mirror. Then observe your tongue using the mirror. Answer the questions
below in your Science Notebook.
1. What do you see on your tongue?
2. What are the different things that a tongue can do?
*The tongue has an important role in human body. It is the sense organ that
can taste the food we eat. It can tell the taste of sour, sweet, salty and bitter
food inside the mouth. It helps the teeth to digest the food inside the mouth. It
helps to push the food and helps in speech and phonetics. How can the
tongue works?
Enrichment Card

Lesson 3: The Skin
Guide Card
Introduction
Human skin is considered to be the largest organ of the body. The skin covers
our whole body, it acts as barrier to protect the body from injury and infection.
It also shields us against the sun’s light and radiation and prevent us from drying
up. The skin also helps us to maintain our body temperature.

Activity Card
Look at your skin. observe your outer skin using the magnifying glass.
16
The skin is one of the largest organs in the body in surface area and
weight. The skin consists of two layers: the epidermis and the dermis. Beneath
the dermis lies the hypodermis or subcutaneous fatty tissue.
The dermis is the layer of the skin that lies beneath the epidermis and
above the subcutaneous layer that consist of blood vessels, nerves sweat
gland, and oil glands.
The sweat gland is made up of a coiled tube which opens onto the skin
surface through a pore. The oil gland helps in keeping the hair soft and shiny. The
skin contains an extensive network of nerve cells that detect and relay changes
in the environment. There are separate receptors for heat, cold, touch, and
pain. The nerves send message to the brain that helps to explain them.
Encircle the correct answer. Do it in your Science Notebook.
1. What is the sense organ that covers the whole body?
a. Nose b. Skin c. Ears d. Eyes
2. What is the outer part of the skin?
a. Blood Vessels c. Epidermis
b. Dermis d. Sweat glands
3.Which of the following found in epidermis?
a. Nerves b. Oil Glands c. hair d. blood vessels
4. Which of the following parts of skin found in the outer layer?
a. Pores c. Oil Glands
b. Sweat Glands d. Nerve Endings
5. What part of skin can keep the hair and skin soft and moist?
