Students will be analysing the structure of a story, and the different elements within a story.
Prior learning/knowledge (previous lessons, pre-testing information, assessment data)
Students will have already learnt the basics around what constitutes a narrative.

Students come from a multi-cultural background; they all speak English proficiently with 2 of the students from

Introduction: Floor time, 5 Minutes


Revise last lesson and what the students believe it takes to build a narrative. Explain that this lesson we will be
watching a video of a story and will be analysing the components of a story.

Main body
See Appendix 1.
Students will view Appendix 1 on the smartboard. With the teacher the students will work through the different
aspects that build a narrative.
Students will then view a video on the smartboard

Working together in pairs with a copy of the story arc, students will explain what the different aspects of the video
are and where they fit into the story arc.
If there is time we can work through other stories and identify the different components.
Teacher will explain that over the course of the next few lessons we will be working towards writing a narrative of
their own, that it needs to have a main character, a beginning, a conflict and a resolution.
