As early as grade 6, the joy of initiating a project and handling a team by facing the challenges
and overcoming the limitations has given me an adrenaline rush. The power of taking
decisions and the exceptional creativity to solve issues lured me more to try and explore this
field of management. I did my undergraduate studies in Computer Science since there was a
lot of scope to do several projects on various new technologies. The exhaustive nature of
courses and a competitive grading system at Sahyadri College of Engineering and
Management has instilled in me a desire to dive deeper into the subjects taught. Although
courses like Data Structures, Operating Systems, Design and Analysis of Algorithms, Data
mining have helped me obtain a very good understanding of computer science engineering
as a whole. I particularly found myself being intrigued by subjects like Management where I
could apply these concepts, solve problems, form a strong team, plan a project, drafting it,
documenting it etc. Understanding and practical application of my technical knowledge to
manage a team has always been at the core of my abilities. Hence, it was easy for me to
always deliver new projects.
My learning was also most effective outside of regular classes. As a curious learner, I
continually sought to expand my horizons and I was able to effectively do so by taking part in
workshops and technical festivals. Once I had led a team of 4 for the event ‘Shastra Circuit
Design Challenge’ at Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai, where we made it to the top 4.
We were the only team qualifying from first year of Engineering. We had to build Automatic
Street Light System with Ambulance detection, Alcohol detection and Speed controllers.
Implementing all the 4 solution was a challenging task as first year students. I was able to
initiate this project by forming a team by deciding who is capable of learning what domain,
allocating the work to each team member, deciding deadlines for each module and taking help
from the right professors. This gave me a sense of confidence to manage things on my own.
I could conduct my own incursions and gather the much-needed practical experience. I placed
equal importance on academic as well as personal growth. Within college I have been an
active member of the student body. I have developed strong organizational skills as a member
of the club called ‘Oratocrats’. My interest in public speaking made me participate in ‘Skirmish
of Verbattle Senior’ a State level debate tournament.
My experience at college club activities helped me in winning Third place in Dumb Charades
competition and I participated in a Mock Court held at National Institute of Technology, Calicut.
I was also qualified to participate in Inter-Collegiate “The Hindu” Debate Competition. I
attended Karnataka State Student Parliament held at Visveswaraya Technological University,
Belgaum. Apart from my academics in college my interest in Chess from school still persisted
and hence my team represented our college and participated in Inter-college south zone state
level Chess tournament.
In a bid to help the society, I started working at NGO called ‘Make A Difference’ which is an
Indian non-profit organization for children in orphanages and shelters across India. I am
currently working as a Foundation Skill volunteer for the kids aged between 10-13-year-old
where I help them in teaching basic life skills, academics and most importantly show care. I
am able to manage my time between work and teaching kids.
Being a project leader in my final year project, we successfully completed the project ‘Virtual
HR’, which filters large number of candidates based on the skills required by the recruiters.
The main challenge was to complete the project on time since the technology ‘Natural
Language Processing’ was completely new domain for us. To get an idea of what and how
management works in the corporate sector, I have completed a Project Management course
from Udemy by Chris Croft where I have got the gist of how organized and how interesting
managing a project in corporate sector can be in various domains. I learned how to use a
Gantt chart in planning a process and following a schedule to meet deadlines and achieve the
goal of the product.
I currently work at a firm called ‘Advanced Business and Healthcare Solutions’ as a Quality
Assurance Engineer. I have created and optimized hundreds of test cases to maximize
success of manual software testing with consistent, thorough approaches. I like managing
bugs, coordinating with the development team and solving any issue. This also developed my
skills as a team player. I always spend some time discussing with my manager on using our
resources in the best way possible for maximum team efficiency. I realized I can do more than
just testing a product. During the meetings, when team managers discuss about solving a
problem, I couldn't wait to jump in and give them ideas to solve it.
This made me believe I can manage a team on my own with the help of a management course.
My goal is to put my education and skills to use in challenging practical situations where I
could push myself to introduce newer and better methods to solve complex problems and
decision making as a team.
I do acknowledge the intensity and the level of competition, but I sincerely believe that my
passion, my long enduring commitment, and my background, all make me a strong fit for the
master’s in international management program. The opportunity to work and study under
eminent professors will help to understand the subject better and gives me the edge in this
fast-growing world. Subjects with emerging technologies, opportunity for industry practice, and
partnerships with international organizations and institutions, all add to the exciting content
and structure of the program. I am fully convinced that it would be a great experience to study
here. I await a reply and hope for a benevolent acceptance of my application so that I can gain
admission in the program.
