Introduction
The Cambridge Learning Management System (CLMS) is an online platform that holds course
content, materials, assessment and administration in one place.
Throughout your course you will have to answer several quizzes and exercises in order to
practice, and learn the material provided.
However, the English language knowledge is no the only tool you must possess in order to
achieve the goals within the platform. You must take care of some technical aspects while
answering the exercises, such as the use of the keyboard, knowing your settings, etc.
In this guide we will give you a set of guidelines to follow in order to avoid unwanted mistakes.
Language and Keyboard.
When using the platform and your system in general, please, be sure to have your keyboard
settings set under the correct configuration.
Language
If you are living in a Latin American country, the computer you are holding is most likely to be
already configured by factory to have certain specifications according to your geographic zone,
so, if your native language is Spanish, your system will be in Spanish, however, sometimes the
Operating System can be bought apart from the hardware (the computer) and on the installation
process, some of the steps could be lost in the procedure.
In order to be sure, you are using the correct language configuration, please follow the instructions
bellow:
For Windows 10
Click on the symbol located at the bottom right of your screen.
A menu will display, please search for the “All Settings” icon:
A new window will open, now, click on the “Time & Language” icon
On the new window you will search at the left menu the “Language” tab, open it and be sure to
have “Español” as the default language.
Keyboard
Most of the computers sold in Latin America are already configured physically in order to match
the following image:

But sometimes the keyboard configuration can be set up incorrectly.

For Windows 10:
Locate within your taskbar (at the bottom of your screen) the keyboard configuration:
Click it and a new tab will appear. You have to choose the Latin American Configuration
This will set up your keyboard to the correct layout according to the one you are holding physically.
CLMS
Most of the CLMS tests hold the same format, so it is important to follow certain tips in order to
avoid unwanted mistakes when answering your tests, quizzes or exercises.
SPACES
At the exercises of “fill in the blanks”, like the one shown in the image:

When writing you answer you must press the “TAB” key right after the last letter of your
answer was keyed in, this in order to avoid unwanted spaces that could be taken wrong by the
system and affecting your grade.
By pressing that key, you will instantly go to the next question, please be sure to do this every
time you key in the last letter of your answer.
Apostrophes
In spanish unlike english language, apostrophes possess different uses, however, it can be used
to mark the omission of one or more letters as in (do not = don’t), the marking of possessive case
of nouns (Sarah’s book) and the marking of plurals of individual characters (all the a’s and b’s).
In the Latin American keyboard it can be easy to confuse one key from another, so, when using
or trying to make the use of english apostrophes, be sure to use this key : .

Be sure to not mistake that key by these other ones:
High Caps
Sometimes in the exercises the same instructions may ask us to change and be careful to modify
the capital letters within the sentence, like in the example of Touchstone 1, where it asks us to
link two sentences with “because”, in here we had to change the “It” to “it”.

Audio
When answering the audio tests as in the Empower series, please be sure to note some aspects
before moving through the different exercises.

Each audio section usually plays itself twice, you must choose what you believe to be the correct
answer before the timer ends.
Also remember that you cannot change to the other question before the audio recording stops
playing, do not refresh the page as your progress may be lost.

On the Empower series you can find this type of exercises, please be sure to type carefully each
letter, because if you type too fast the platform may not detect the key being pressed and you
may end up committing an unwanted mistake.
Summary
As you can see, in general, all the mistakes can be avoided if you answer carefully and read the
instructions completely. Do not rush when answering the exercises and be sure to have the
correct configuration in your equipment.
