The following text is for questions 21 to 23.

A drought begins with a disruption to the water cycle, the circulation of water from the
Earth's atmosphere to its surface. Sometimes this disruption happens naturally, such as during a heat
wave. Most droughts are temporary, and can occur in al climates. Some climates are permanently
dry, or arid, such as dessert.

A drought is a shortage or precipitation over a period of time. Droughts get worse when
rivers and streams dry up, leaving people without water to drink and to grow food. Droughts should
not be confused with arid climates, where very little precipitation falls year round. A drought
happens when a specific geographic region receives much less precipitation than normal. Conditions
that are thought to be drought-like in North America might not considered drought-like in Africa or
parts of Australia. In arid climates, people have developed ways of surviving with very little water.
They also conserve what little water they have.

D. Where droughts occur
E. Why droughts are dangerous

A. the areas change into deserts
B. some regions experience arid climates
C. there is a disruption in the climates

The following is how rain is formed. The air is filled with tiny particles known as
vapour. Vapour is actually the gaseous form of water. The air around us is corstantly
moving because the air near the surface of the Earth is hotter and lighter. This is why this air
rises. The air higher up in the sky is cold and heavy, s0it sinks. The rising of air and the
sinking of cold water cause the air to move. When the hot cf air rises to a certain level, the
vapour presents in it, cools and changes to water. This is known as condensation. When the
water particles are too heavy for the air to carry, the air is said to be oversaturated. The
water particles then fall as rain.

24. What is vapour?

A. A very tiny particle.
B. The gascous form of water.
C. A part of gas.
D. The hot air.
E. A heavy particle of air.

25. When is the air called to be oversaturated?

A. When the water particles falls as rain.
B. When the vapour changes into water.
C. When the water particles are too heavy for the air to carry.
D. When the hot air rises to a certáin level.
E. When the air moves.

26. "The air higher up in the sky is cold and heavy, so it sinks."
The underlined word refers to....
A. the air
B. the sky
C. the cold water
D. the rain
E. the surface

The following text is for questions 27 to 30.

Lightning is a bolt of electricity between the sky and the ground. A single bolt has
enough power to light hundred lamps for a day. Lightning can strike people and even kill
them. Lightning also starts hundreds of forest fires every year.
Inside the big dark thunderclouds on a stormy day are millions of tiny droplets of
ice. These collide with each other all the time, creating electric charge (a small amount of
electricity). In no time, the could gets filled up with charges
Electric charges are neither positive or negative. When negative charges from the
bottom of the cloud and positive charges of the ground meet, a flash is seen. This flash is
actually the path of the electrical charges. All this happens in a fraction of a second.
Lightning heats up the air around it to temperatures up to 30,000 degrees Celsius.
This is more than five times hotter than the surface of the Sun. When air is heated so
quickly, it expands and contracts violently, much like a balloon bursting. The explosion is
heard as thunder. Lightning and thunder happen at the same time, but why do we always see
lightning first and hear thunder later? This is because light travels almost a million times
faster than sound.

27. What is the purpose of the text about?

A. To describe about lightning.
B. To inform the readers the danger of lightning.
C. To persuade the readers that lightning is dangerous.
D. To explain how lightning is formed.
E. To inform the readers newsworthy event related to lightning.

28. What is the effect of lightning strikes?

A. It can start hundreds of forest fires every year.
B. It can light hundreds of lamps every day.
C. It can make the temperature hotter.
D. It can create electricity.
E. It can redeem the thunder.

29. We can see lightning before hearing the thunder because....

A. the air is heated so quickly
B. lightning heats up the air around it
C. it expands and contracts violently, much like a balloon bursting
D. negative and positive charges of the ground meet
E. light travels almost a million times faster than sound

30. "Lightning heats up the air around it to temperatures up to 30,000 degrees Celcius."
(paragraph 4) The underlined word refers to...
A. lightning
B. the air
C. the temperature
D. The flash
