1. How do you think we can contribute to reducing violence in television? What steps
can be done to reduce violence?

Violence is a very hard thing to manipulate of especially within a vicinity of a

student in this harmful world we live in. Studies of violence in mass media can help us
scale the themes of violence in media sources with real-world aggression and violence over
time. Complaints about the possible negative effects of mass media appear throughout
history; even Plato was concerned about the effects of plays on youth. Various
media/genres, including dime novels, comic books, jazz, rock and roll, role-
playing/computer games, television, films, the internet, and many others have attracted
speculation that consumers of such media may become more aggressive, rebellious, or
immoral.
Even though these circumstances arose magnificently in society, we can still
minimize violence in television through classifying and reviewing television programs,
motion pictures, video games, and home videos. Classification advises parents or
supervising adults that the media shown may contain any of the elements whose treatment
is suitable for children. As a board responsible for the classification and review of movies
and television programs, good enough to address that the Movie Television Review and
Classification Board, or MTRCB, is continuously sifting the shows that air on Philippine
TV networks.
However, with so much media content and so many ways to watch TV shows,
videos, and movies or play video games today, it's getting harder and harder for parents to
filter the content their kids are exposed to every day. And, unless you put your child in a
bubble, they will inevitably have some exposure to frightening or inappropriate content at
school or a friend's house, even if you do your best to screen what he sees at home on TV,
in movies, or on the internet.

So, what can parents do to protect school-age kids from violence in the media? Here
are some strategies for screening and choosing the media content your child is exposed to.
• Explain the meaning of violence, and explain to them how unrealistic it is for people
to get away with violent behavior.
• Do not let an individual spend too long with virtual violence. We can minimize the
influence of media on the children when we limit the time spent focusing on
particular media channels
• Teach kids how to use their words responsibly to stand up for themselves without
using violence as a solution.
• Keep an eye on interactive media violence. There's no way to accurately measure
whether there's more or less violence than in the past, but the pervasiveness of it in
interactive forms, such as social media, online videos, and video games, is
relatively new.

Violence and other mature content can be unhealthy for children and adults and we
have the choice to protect an individual’s welfare until they are older and able to make
decisions about the grown-up material.
