Week 1 - Dropbox #1: Scavenger Hunt

This activity is designed to help you review key material in the HRPA website. Answer the
questions in the following template. Save the template and your responses as a file and submit
it in the drop box. The file name should be in the following format: your name Dropbox #1.
Important Notes:
This assignment is due in the drop box Friday at 11:59pm of week 1.
No Late submissions will be accepted
The file must be saved in a format which can be opened in MS Word.

Grading:
You can earn up to 5 points for this assignment. Responses will be graded according to the
following scale.
1-4 Provides minor or incorrect understanding of the HRPA details.
5-7 Provides a basic response demonstrating some understanding of HRPA details.
8-10 Provides a thorough response demonstrating a full understanding of the HRPA details.

Scavenger Hunt
Search HRPA’s website (www.hrpa.ca). Search for the following information.
 What minimum level of education is required to obtain your CHRL designation?
 Which courses require successful completion in order to write the CKE exams?
What grades are required in each course to meet minimum requirements?
 Name 5 Chapters in the HRPA.
 What are the 3 different types of HR designations?
 What are the 3 different registration classes of membership in HRPA?
 What are the CKE1 & CKE2 & Employment Law exams? Explain the difference
between the three.
 What is the Job Ready Program?
 What is the recertification log and what is CPD? After how many years do you need
to recertify?
 How much work experience is required prior to obtaining your CHRL designation?

Fanshawe Policy 2-G-04 applies to this assignment


1. An applicant must have a degree from recognized educational Institution
irrespective of the discipline to earn the right of using CHRL designation.
Furthermore, applicants can write the CHRL knowledge test commonly known as
CHRL – KE even with out a degree but once the test is passed, applicants have a
span of 10yeas to complete a degree and meet the requirements of the CHRL
designation. Once a degree has been earned, the CHRL designation has no time limit
on the validity.
2. CHRP – KE - The coursework requirement consists of successful completion of
courses in nine subject areas with a grade of 65% or better and an overall average
of 70% or above or alternative route
CHRL – KE - The coursework requirement consists of successful completion of courses
in nine subject areas with a grade of 65% or better, and an overall average of 70%
or above pr alternative route
Alternative Route - To provide the greatest flexibility, a points-based system was developed that
gives ‘points’ for experience, formal training, coursework, and other relevant designations.
Fifty points are needed to pass the Alternate Route and qualify for the Comprehensive Knowledge
Exam (CKE 1 or CKE 2)

4. CHRP – Certified Human Resources Professional
CHRL – Certified Human Resources Leader
CHRE – Certified Human Resources Executive
5. Members, Students, and International Educated HR Professionals
6. CKE1 -CHRP Knowledge Exam - A test intended to evaluate the information needed
to perform at the CHRP level. It comprises of 175 multiple choice questions.
CKE2 – CHRL Knowledge Exam - certification exam designed to assess the
knowledge required to perform at the CHRL level (also satisfies the CHRP
Knowledge Exam requirement). It consists of 250 multiple-choice questions
Employment Law Exams – An MCQ examination consisting of 110 questions
assessing the knowledge and skills of workplace in Ontario
7. Job Ready Program - The Job Ready Program is an online course designed to assist
registrants with their transition into the workplace including training around
professionalism and ethics. It includes 4 modules (Professionalism, Challenges of
being a HR professional, Tricky situation and how to handle them and HRPA’s rule
of professional conduct and their application in everyday situations.
8. Recertification or Continuing Professional Development – It ensures the members
who have earned CHRP, CHRL and/or CHRE designations participate in ongoing

professional development activities.
Its main purpose is to ensure members participate in professional development
activities such as
 Enhance their abilities as HR practitioner,
 Contribute to acquisition of knowledge,
 Reinforce essential HR Skills
CHRP, CHRL and CHRE members are required to obtain 66.67 hours of professional
development activities for every three-year CPD cycle.
9. CHRL applicants must have at least three years of professional experience in HR
