Step 1
COMPLETE the design, then place the
Vilene on the back of the wings and
iron in place. Using sharp scissors, cut
around the wing shape, leaving one
blank square of aida around the design.
Step 2
ROLL the stitched angel into a cone
shape. On the back seam, fold the
excess fabric to the wrong side of the
stitching. Finger press in place. Cut
away some of the excess fabric from
the bottom of the design, leaving
6mm (¼in) of unstitched fabric below
the stitching. Fold this inside the
cone, and press with your fingers
to get a neat edge.

Make a… Santa
Advent calendar
Step 1
START stitching Santa 5cm (2in)
down from the top of the fabric.
To fit onto the page, his beard
has been detached and cut in half.
To stitch, spin each beard section
and drop it down to fit below Santa,
attaching to the remaining beard
shown below the face. Use two
strands for the cross stitch and
one for the backstitch, apart
from numbers on the pockets that
should be stitched in two.
Step 2
STITCH the 24 numbers, using two
strands of stranded cotton in the
centre of each small piece of aida,
two aida squares below the red and
green cross stitched line. You have
numbers 1 – 9 plus 0, so that each
number or pair of numbers needs to
be spaced centrally on the fabric
below the cross stitch.
Step 3
FOLD the aida for each pocket over
and onto the back along the top of
the red and green cross stitched line,
and then repeat on the other three
sides, turning over by 1cm (3⁄8in).
Place the number pockets onto
Santa’s beard, and then using white
cotton, catch stitch three sides to the
fabric, leaving the top edge open.
Step 4
You can pick up the magnetic frame ends we used

Step 1
WORK using two strands of stranded
cotton for the cross stitch, and one or
two for the backstitch.

TRIM the stitched fabric to fit your card,
with the design centrally placed behind
the card’s aperture.

ATTACH double-sided tape to the
inside of the card around the edge
of the aperture.

Make a… brooch
Step 1
STITCH your chosen design using two
strands for the cross stitch and one for
the backstitch. The beads should be
added following the chart for placement
using one strand of red stranded cotton,
on top of the cross stitches.
Step 2
CUT around the design using small, sharp
scissors, leaving one blank square around
the stitching. You can cover the back of
your design with felt, which should be cut
to size and then attached to the back of
the stitching using fabric glue.
Step 3
SEW a brooch pin firmly to the back of
