I wasn’t aware as a kid that the whole world didn’t live as I did, that in fact I was very,
considerable talents very lucky — that 99% of the world was living in much more difficult circumstances.
to our very first I thought about that a lot when I first visited the Kisaruni School in Kenya:
GH GIVING ISSUE. The school was built by the WE Charity in the Maasai area, where they previously
didn’t provide secondary education to girls. I got to meet the first graduating class,
and I was moved by these young women who were so motivated to learn and really took
advantage of the privilege. They know how rare it is that a girl gets the opportunity for
secondary education there and how lucky they are. The girls wake up at four in the
morning to study, and beg for school to be seven days a week instead of five. They realize
this opportunity can change their lives. These Kenyans want to be doctors and teachers
or the president and come back to their communities to make them better and stronger.
One of the nice things about WE is that it engages kids in developed countries
to get involved supporting kids in the developing world. We need to expose our
children in an honest, non-scary way to things that are going on: how some people
don’t have enough to eat, how some animals are not treated as well as their pets at home
HELPING HANDS and how the environment is precious and needs our care. And kids understand.

Make a list; check it twice.

“Failing to plan ahead
always leads to unneces-

Write down a plan of

“When there’s a storewide
sale, what’s by the doors
has most likely already
been picked over,” says
Skirboll. “You’ll find
more options in the back,
since shoppers tend to
go there last or skip it
altogether.”

How do you treat people who

the question at the heart

film starring Julia Roberts as
the mother of a boy with

who sees him. Here, Julia,

director Stephen Chbosky
share how this little book
changed their lives

wrote Wonder, a middle-grade novel that adults
love too and that has been on best-seller lists for
over two years. It’s the story of Auggie Pullman,
a 10-year-old boy who was born with severe facial
differences. Having been tutored until now by
his mother (played by Julia), Auggie is entering
school in the fifth grade — a change that’s stressful
for any child, but especially so for one who has
spent his life watching others look away. The story
is told through the alternating perspectives of
Auggie, his sister and other kids, a technique that
gives the reader true insight into how our actions
and words really affect others. It’s also built around
a teacher’s precepts, sayings related to kindness
that echo the challenges everyone in the story
grapples with — and that speak to things we can
all do to help create a kinder world. With Auggie’s
story now hitting the big screen, Julia, R.J. and
Stephen highlight the most meaningful lessons
they’ve taken to heart in their own families.

Toyota Safety Sense™ is now standard
on many new Toyotas.

The road can be unpredictable. That’s why many new Toyotas, including the first-ever Toyota C-HR, come with
a suite of active safety features at no extra charge, including Pre-Collision System (PCS)2, Lane Departure Alert
(LDA)3 and other innovations. Toyota Safety Sense™ (TSS). Designed for safety.

Prototype shown with options. Production model will vary. 1. Drivers are responsible for their own safe driving. Always pay attention to your surroundings and drive safely. System effectiveness is dependent on many factors including road, weather and vehicle conditions. See Owner’s
Manual for additional limitations and details. 2. The TSS Pre-Collision System is designed to help avoid or reduce the crash speed and damage in certain frontal collisions only. It is not a substitute for safe and attentive driving. System effectiveness is dependent on many factors including
road, weather and vehicle conditions. See Owner’s Manual for additional limitations and details. 3. Lane Departure Alert is designed to read visible lane markers under certain conditions, and provide visual and audible alerts when lane departure is detected. It is not a collision-avoidance
system or a substitute for safe and attentive driving. Effectiveness is dependent on many factors including road, weather and vehicle conditions. See Owner’s Manual for additional limitations and details. ©2017 Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc.
