Training & Development - educational activities within a company created to enhance the knowledge
and skills of employees while providing information and instruction on how to better perform specific
tasks
A. Orientation/ Workplace Orientation - The EEs first experience in the new job. They are taught
history, values, and goals for their new place of employment. They are also educated about the
market and products offered. Rules about safety and regulations are also covered in the
process.
B. In-House Training - learning for employees led by the company itself; Enables a cost efficient
and time flexible training framework. Customized to address specific organizational or
capability needs. An interactive means of team bonding as well as education
C. External Training - should be run through a registered training organization
D. Mentorship - a business tool to develop and retain employees; it uses the resources your
company already has to improve employee satisfaction, develop leadership, and teach new
skills

Performance Evaluation/ Appraisal - A systematic way to examine how well an employee is


performing in his or her job; regular review of an employee's job performance and overall contribution
to a company.

Basic Function of Appraisal


1. to provide adequate feedback to each person on his or her performance
2. to serve as a basis for modifying or changing behavior toward more effective working habits;
3. to provide data to managers with which they may judge future job assignments and
compensation

Tools to use in EE Appraisal


APA – Annual Performance Appraisal
KPI – Key Performance Indicator

Employee Relations - The company’s effort to manage relationship between the employer and
employee; It also provides fair & consistent treatment to all employee to build commitment & loyalty to
the company

Employee Movement

1. Transfer - change in job assignment/ Promotion & Demotion


2. Employee Separation -employee & employer service agreement end
End of Contract – service agreement had expired
Resignation- voluntary separation initiated by the employee
Retirement – termination of service on reaching a certain age
Death – employees dies in service
Retrenchment – permanent lay off
Lay Off – temporary separation of the employee to the organization because of economic
or business reasons
Discharge, Dismissal or Termination –used as a punitive measure for a misconduct of an
employee

Employee Reward System - programs set up by a company to reward performance and motivate
employees on individual and/or group levels. They are normally considered separate from salary but
may be monetary in nature or otherwise have a cost to the company.

1. Training and Development has 4 main categories Workplace Orientation, In-House Training
External Training , Mentorship
2. APA and KPI are tools to help you conduct an EE Performance Evaluation/ Appraisal
3. Employee Movement can be transfer of separation
4. EE reward system can be in the form of reward (monetary or tangible form) and recognition (non-
monetary and intangible forms)
5. EE Relations are programs or activities that build positive ER and EE relationship

profile, which one should you hire?

Applicant A (exceeds expectation) – the candidate possesses all the minimum requirement and
strong industry experience for the position, even had an impressive answer in the interview
process.
Applicant B (meet expectation) - the candidate possesses all the minimum requirement and
industry experience or the position, interview feedback is acceptable.
Applicant C (did not meet expectation) - the candidate possesses all the minimum requirement
but a fresh graduate, interview feedback is acceptable but not impressive.
