RISE OF A NEW TYPE OF FEMINISM

~ RISING MISANDRY

Recently, the statement “I am a feminist” has become synonymous to the statement “I

hate men.” The mere idea of feminism is being misconstrued as the idea of hating men.
It’s become a widely spread belief that feminism represents the idea of switching the
power structure so that men are on the bottom and women are on the top; however, this is
a common misconception. With respect to the above argument, misandry although
doesn’t resemble feminism but it might be a new type of feminism which is on a rise and
is becoming more apparent.

Feminism has been growing long before the #MeToo movement. But as we see
frustration rise, we see new tactics, and this is how we birth extremist. This new
feminism can be described as misandry. Misandry is described as the invisible hatred of
men. When we think of misogyny a lot of terrible things come to mind. Such as sexual
harassment, but surprisingly a lot of people do not believe that misandry can exist and
that sexually harassing a man is not possible. I understand that this hatred stems from a
place of rebuttal, but we have put men into one category as SOME men have done to us.
So, the question I have surrounding what appears to be a hateful form of feminism is
“why”? History has shown us that fighting fire with fire will not work. And a good
offense is not always the best defence.

Talking about rising misandry some people are of an opinion that misandry is no more
prevalent than misogyny; they both exist, but the number of people prepared to say, and
really mean, “all men are the same” or “all women are the same” is really relatively low.
The vast majority of people of both sexes may occasionally express some stereotypical
view of their own or the other gender, but if it is even truly believed it does not spring
from hatred or hostility but bemusement or an attempt at humour. Misandry/misogyny
is just one of the possible asymmetries in life experiences between men and
women. There are many obvious asymmetries in life experiences between groups of
people in the human realm, for instance between rich and poor, educated and uneducated,
freeman and slaves, life in peace and life in war, etc.

Some people also believe that rising misandry is a myth and that misogyny is more sever
and problematic, because it's both older & has destroyed more lives than misandry. Few
men are abused, murdered, assaulted, mutilated, tortured or raped by female misandrists.
While a lot of women throughout history and into the present time have been murdered,
raped, assaulted, & tortured by male misogynists.

Now even though in practice misandry is much less prevalent and not institutionally
oppressive the way misogyny is but it does still exist and it does affect innocent people
negatively. But regardless of how prevalent misandry is, to be a decent person you need to
watch your biases and make sure you're not acting with prejudice in your interactions
with innocent people.
