The Shem HaMephorash
And the connection between the
Divine Name and the 72 Angels
It is an old kabbalistic doctrine that all the universe is permeated
with the virtues and power of the Divine Names, which
represent the various attributes of the Infinite Being. These
Names are like openings in the abyss, through which we attain
an uplifting of our limited faculties.
All the letters comprising the 72-fold name (and thus the names of
the 72 Angels) are derived from the Book of Exodus, chapter 14,
verses 19 - 21. Each of the three verses contains exactly 72 letters,
and when one letter is taken from each verse in the kabbalistic
pattern, they form 72 three-letter names that are unique to each
Angel.
The verses tell the story of the Angel of God, who protected the
fleeing Israelites from the army of the Pharaoh. It was Moses
who spoke the 72-fold name aloud and caused God to part the Red
Sea.
Exodus 14
19 And the angel of God, which went before the camp of Israel, removed
and went behind them; and the pillar of the cloud went from before their
face, and stood behind them:
20 And it came between the camp of the Egyptians and the camp of Israel;
and it was a cloud and darkness to them, but it gave light by night to these:
so that the one came not near the other all the night.
21 And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the Lord
caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and
made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided.
No other mortal has ever spoken the name aloud, but the power
of the name is divinely wound like a spiral through the names
of the 72 Angels. When one wishes to call upon the power of the
Divine Name, to summon a particular attribute of the Almighty,
they may do so by evoking the 72 Angels and the Archangels
who rule over them.

The Hierarchy of Angels
Seraphim
The highest rank of angels, the Choir of
Seraphim are six-winged beings that fly
around the throne of God.
Isaiah 6:1-3
I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high
and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.
Above it stood the seraphims: each one had
six wings; with twain he covered his face,
and with twain he covered his feet, and with
twain he did fly. And one cried unto
another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord
of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.
Cherubim
The Cherubs guard the Garden of Eden and
escort the throne of God.
Eziekiel 1:5-6
Out of the midst there came the likeness of
four living creatures. And this was their
appearance; they had the likeness of a man.
And every one had four faces, and every one
had four wings.
Thrones
The Thrones are great wheels, covered in
eyes, that deliver Divine justice and hold up
God and remain forever in His presence.
Daniel 7:9
I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and
the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment
was white as snow, and the hair of his head
like the pure wool: his throne was like the
fiery flame, and his wheels as burning fire.
Dominions
The Dominions appear as humans of perfect
beauty with wings, and are responsible for
regulating the duties of the lower ranks of
angels.
Ephesians 1:20-21
He raised Christ from the dead and seated
him at his right hand in the heavenly realms,
far above all rule and authority, power and
dominion, and every name that is invoked,
not only in the present age but also in the one
to come.
Virtues
Angels from the Choir of Virtues are
responsible for making miracles occur upon
the Earth. They possess an unshakable
energy welling forth from their Godlike
abilities.
Powers
The Powers ensure the cosmos remains in
order. They are warrior angels, prepared to
destroy evil spirits, or cast them down to
prisons.
Colossians 1:16
For by him were all things created, that are
in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and
invisible, whether they be thrones, or
dominions, or principalities, or powers: all
things were created by him.
Principalities
The angels of the Principalities guide and
protect nations, races, and institutions. They
are educators and guardians of the realm of
mortals.
Ephesians 3:9-10
The fellowship of the mystery, which from
the beginning of the world hath been hid in
God, who created all things by Jesus Christ:
To the intent that now the principalities and
powers in heavenly places might be known
by the church the manifold wisdom of God.
Archangels
Archangels are the chief leaders of the
angels which appear among mortals. Their
power is great and they serve God directly.
1 Thessalonians 4:16
For the Lord himself shall descend from
heaven with a shout, with the voice of the
archangel, and with the trump of God.
Angels
Angels are the messengers of Divine light
who descend from the Heavens to minister to
mortals. They have diverse powers and
roles, and some are given specific tasks.
They are capable of preforming great
miracles and unleashing tremendous
destruction.
Matthew 28
And, behold, there was a great earthquake:
for the angel of the Lord descended from
heaven. His countenance was like lightning,
and his raiment white as snow: And for fear
of him the keepers did shake, and became as
dead men. The angel said unto the women:
Fear not, for I know that ye seek Jesus,
which was crucified.

This script was created by ancient Hebrew scholars through the practice and
study of connecting lines between the stars in the constellations where certain
Angels were know to inhabit the firmament. By this method, they developed a
writing system whereby mortals may communicate in the Hebrew language
directly to celestial beings. The words formed using these characters must be
written in Hebrew, any other language will render the words indecipherable to
the Angelic choirs.

To conjure any of the 72 Angels of the Shem HaMephorash, the Archangels of the
Zodiac, or other Archangels of the Heavens, follow these steps:
The seal of the angel should be traced in red ink on virgin parchment. The ink
should be Chinese red, with a touch of vermillion.
Above the seal, write the name of the angel in Malachim characters, that is, the
writing of the angels.
Around the seal and the name, draw a double circle in black ink.
Within the double circle, write the angel's corresponding verse from the Psalms in
either Hebrew or Latin.
If written in Latin, the verse should come from the Vulgate, but correspond with
the Hebrew text.
Alternately, one may also trace the Pentacles of Tosgraec for assistance in
conjuring any angel.
If the conjurer has any fear or doubt in the back of their mind about the spirit
which is to be summoned, the Grand Pentacle of Solomon should be displayed in
some manner, either worn as a lamen or traced and sat somewhere within the
magic circle in which the conjuring is to occur.
After these seals and pentacles have been created, then recite the Invocation to
Summon the Angelic Spirits. These words should be spoken slowly and with great
reverence and respect for the angelic spirit which is to be conjured.
The Grand Pentacle of Solomon
This pentacle serves to reconcile the benevolence of good spirits, and to
granulize and destroy our fear, so that we will be able to protect ourselves
from the fury that may occur with their arrival.
When the spirits gaze upon the beauty of this pentacle, it is so great that it
restrains the spirits and compels them to appear under forms which will not
cause fear or trembling.
Invocation to Summon the
Angelic Spirits
Your first angelic guide is of Divine rank and order: it is commissioned by the
command of God, and the charge of the soul is given to this Angel at the time of the
soul's creation. This Angel is the rector and governor of life. It imparts Divine
Light, and helps lifts up the soul toward a higher spiritual existence. The first
Angel operates within the confines of the 24 hours of the day.
Your second angelic guide emanates from the astrological world: from the power
of the stars. It will lead mortals along the path of virtue. Its influence is on the
qualities of the moral order and the things which pass into expression in speech.
The second Angel operates within specific days of the months of the year.
Your third angelic guide emanates from the physical world. It governs the
physical aspect of a mortal's existence on earth. It influences health, motions, and
actions. The third angel operates in successive periods of days throughout the
year.
These names must not be thought of in a limited and personal sense. It so happens
that the angelical offices are interchangeable: an Angel who governs the
physical part of one particular child, may also be the leader into the light of the
soul belonging to another, while he also presides over the moral qualities and
dispositions of a third. For it is written in the Book of Hebrews: “All angels are
ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation.” And in the
Book of Luke: “He will command his angels concerning you to guard you
carefully.”
The three Angels specific to each person work in perfect harmony to ensure good
welfare, and their offices interpenetrate one another. The more fully we can
realize their powers and influences, the more these Angels will lead us in
proportion as we continue to open ourselves to receive their spirit.
It remains to say that if you are uncertain respecting the moment of your birth,
you should at least be able to fix the hour itself. Then consider your own
character and disposition, consult the Grand Kabalistic Table, and decide which of
the three Angels is most in correspondence with these.
