Unit Title: Finances and You ‖ Lesson Title: Budgeting

Goals & Objectives


Students will understand what a budget is.
Students will discuss the purposes of budgets
In groups, students will construct a budget for a college student
Students will understand how budget impacts everyday life, from the US government down to
our daily lives.

California State Content Standards


12.3 Students analyze the influence of the federal government on the American
economy.
4. Understand the aims and tools of monetary policy and their influence on economic
activity (e.g., the Federal Reserve).
12.5 Students analyze the aggregate economic behavior of the U.S. economy.
2. Define, calculate, and explain the significance of an unemployment rate, the number
of new jobs created monthly, an inflation or deflation rate, and a rate of economic
growth.

How can budgeting impact our lives?

Lesson Introduction (Anticipatory Set/Hook/Accessing Prior Knowledge) ‖ Time: 5


minutes
When giving this lecture, it happened to be the same day that the last Wandavision
episode releases so i start with that. I then proceed to talk about budgeting, and what
the objectives are for the lesson

Vocabulary (Content Language Development) ‖ Time:


budget, taxes, gross spending, debt

Content Delivery (Method of Instruction) ‖ Time: 35 minutes


Powerpoint, video, and class discussion. The video will be shown right after the
objectives are given, then I will give the presentation and allow the students to
discuss topics with their classmates.
Student Engagement (Critical Thinking & Student Activities) ‖ Time: 15 minutes
Students will take guided notes, as well as practice main a budget.

Lesson Closure ‖ Time: 5 Minutes


Readdress the objectives and what the main points of the lecture are. We then look
forward to what they will be learning next.

Assessments (Formative & Summative)


Students will have a formative assessment in the form of an exit ticket. This exit ticket will
be a question on the lecture and it will allow me to see if the students understood the
lecture that day. The summative assessment will be multiple choice encompassing every
lesson that has been taught in the unit plan.

Accommodations for English Learners, Striving Readers and Students with Special Needs
Videos will have subtitles, if they wish, they can be placed in groups with other students
who speak their native language so that they can feel more comfortable. This can also mean
that they can use their native language to ask questions as well.

Resources (Books, Websites, Handouts, Materials)


Guided notes will be provided online on a website called schoology. This website will allow
teachers to put much of their content into it and the students can all go their for all the
materials.
