Project Name: “Unnati” - Empowering women through Vocational Training

CSR Partner: Navjyoti India Foundation

Project Details

1. Name of the Navjyoti India Foundation is a not-for-profit organization working since


Trust/Society/Comp 1987, with a commitment to work with marginalized sections of the
any society and to bring them attain dignified quality life. It was registered as
an organization in 1988 by the Magsaysay Award recipient Dr. Kiran Bedi
and 15 other likeminded officials of Delhi Police, as a result of the
inextricable link that existed between crime and drugs. Our strategy of
crime prevention is based on the principle that the surest way to reduce
crime is to focus on factors that put individuals at risk.

Over the last twenty seven years, Navjyoti has been working relentlessly
to bring about qualitative behavioral change and impact lives of over one
lakh people. Its bottom- up approach of inclusive development has
changed lives of many and has led the path in sustainable development.

At present, Navjyoti focuses on Child Education, Skills for Youth and


Community Development programs as its main areas of interventions.

2. Project Focus and The focus of the project is to empower the women and equip them with
Earlier Association tools to become self-reliant through stitching and tailoring skill up
with Canara HSBC gradation program.

Insurance Navjyoti India Foundation has been working together under the ‘Unnati
Project’ since 2009. Approximately 600 women beneficiaries have been
directly trained in the stitching course since the association.

3. Objective The project area is characterized with a typical rural setting with the
women and girls of the area mostly involved in household chores, having
no say in the family affairs. Excluded from receiving higher education and
entirely dependent on their male counterparts, they have to bear the
brunt of most of the evils like dowry, domestic violence etc and are not
allowed to step out of their houses.

 To promote employment oriented vocation skills and training to


the adolescent girls and women from the community
 To provide awareness on social issues to adolescent girls and
women
 To encourage self employment by providing related training and
exposure visits
 To certify and to liaison with the trained institutes in order to
strengthen training and placements opportunities for the trained
girls and women

Project Details The project will focus on skilling of adolescent girls and women with no
4. knowledge and prior knowledge in stitching. The project will cover the
following activities:

i. Skilling of Beneficiaries:

 Skilling of 3 months course to 110-120 beneficiaries as per the


need in the villages in Sohna block
 Identification of teachers
 Training of teachers
 Identification of beneficiaries
 Village identification and center selection
 Enrollment of students
 Set up of infrastructure facilities in the village
 Start of the skilling activities

ii. Personal Development of Beneficiaries:

 Orientation of beneficiaries
 Conduct seminars/charcha mandals for the beneficiaries
 Exposure trips for the beneficiaries

7. Project Impact The impact of the project will be to empower 110-120 adolescent
girls and women from the community in basic stitching course.
 Awareness & confidence of the women will be enhanced on social
issues.
 Women will be motivated to setup their own income generation
units/start activities.
8. Sustainability The project is a low cost model as it involves participation and
involvement of various stakeholders.
 The venue in the villages is provided by the community without
any charges.
 Volunteers and institutions will be associated with the project for
expert trainings
 The trained teachers will be encouraged to run their own stitching
centres in the villages on a partnership model in next two years.
 Eventually the vision is to establish ‘Unnati’ as a brand in next 5
years so that the women can earn on a sustained basis for
themselve . A process flow will be made on how to establish
Unnati as a brand this year and networking will be done with
Institutes and individuals for the same.

* As agreed, post submission of Project Report and Finance
Report in September 2015 - (as per Milestone I) by Navjyoti India
Foundation and approval of the same by the Company, the 2nd
support amount installment will be released by the Company.
