    India Through My Eyes

    If you have ever focused on the creation of a butterfly, you will notice that the caterpillar goes through a
    phase of constant eating followed by a Cocoon state and finally emerges as a beautiful butterfly. The
    Cocoon state is extremely crucial as this is where the caterpillar digests its entire old body to radically
    transform from a crawling insect to one that flies....all this is happening inside.... hidden from our naked
    eyes.

    India to me is like that Caterpillar going through 3 phases, first “rapid consumption”, with a population
    of 1.2 Billion and 65% less than the age of 35 i we have seen a lot of consumption in goods and services
    over the past decade and now India is in its second or “Cocoon” state where she is undergoing
    tremendous change and with time emerge into a final state... a beautiful butterfly, a much greater
    version of itself....but for this two things must happen.

    Digest or get rid of its old body: Post independence India has developed as a body crippled with
    inequalities in education and wealth distribution, discriminations based on religion, caste, gender. Wide
    spread corruption both at the common man and the political levels. India must dissolve this old body.

    Time and Self Acting: A Cocoon needs time to do its magical transformation, if this is hastened i.e. a
    cocoon is cut prior to the butterfly emerging on its own, it results in a crippled butterfly that can never
    fly because on struggling out of the cocoon on its own is when the juice in its belly flows to expand the
    wings.... if India is not given the due time or is helped by foreign support it will never learn to be
    independent on its own and complete its magical transformation hence the importance of nation
    building initiatives like “Make in India” a type of “Swadeshi” movement, “Swayam Scheme” for
    education etc.

    Gandhiji was convinced that India lives in her villages and hence it is such a relief to see NGO’s across
    the country helping rural development by making villages self-dependent or self acting most of the time
    enabling them to use their own Local wisdom as opposed to seeking aid from the central government.
    With Time we will see much improvement in Village sanitation, Education, women’s rights, Child
    development, farmer aid, Internet connection (Digital India movement) etc

    A butterfly on emerging from its initial caterpillar phase ....never returns back to its old form, the
    transformation is permanent and lasting. I pray that India will soon emerge and fly taking every Indian to
    a high where they live with dignity, self respect and have plenty of opportunities socially and
    economically.

    Hindustan is also called “Youngistaan” and I am proud to be part of an NGO that promotes Youth Seva.
    Where the youth of today will be a propelling force for this lasting transformation.
