Science VI - Solar System

The document discusses planets and the solar system. It aims to define planets, identify the eight planets in our solar system, and promote caring for our planet Earth. Planets are defined as celestial objects that orbit the sun and are round or nearly round. The eight planets are identified as Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. The document provides information about each planet and presents a teaching plan to discuss planets with students through group activities, discussions, and an evaluation. It concludes by having students reflect on which planet they identify with.

I.

Objectives
a. define and discuss planets
b. identify and discuss the eight planets of solar system
c. show care of our planet earth
II. Learning Task
A. Topic: Planets
B. Concept
Planets- the term “planet” originally comes from the Greek word for
“wandered”.
- Is an object that orbits the sun, and has sufficient mass to
be round or nearly round.
The Eight Planets
Mercury- is the closest planet to the Sun and the eighth
largest.
Venus- is the second planet from the Sun and the sixth
largest. Venus' orbit is the most nearly circular of that of any planet,
with an eccentricity of less than 1%.
Earth- is the only planet in our solar system known to harbor
life.
Mars- the “Red Planet”
Jupiter- is the fifth planet from the Sun and by far the largest. It
is more than twice as massive as all the other planets combined.
Saturn- is the sixth planet from the Sun and the second
largest.
Uranus- is the seventh planet from the Sun and the third
largest (by diameter). Uranus is larger in diameter but smaller in
mass than Neptune.
Neptune- is the eighth planet from the Sun and the fourth
largest (by diameter). Neptune is smaller in diameter but larger in
mass than Uranus.
C. Skills
Defining, discussing and identifying skills
D. Values
1. Develop collaboration and cooperation among groups.
2. Appreciate the importance of the topic.
E. Materials
Cartolina, marker and pictures
F. Reference
Science for Daily Use V by Conchita T. Tan
III. Teaching Strategies
A. Preparation
1. Prayer
2. Greetings
3. Setting of classroom
4. Checking of attendance
5. Review
6. Motivation
There is a song to be present in the class.

The sun is a ball of hot burning gas

In the middle of the solar system
Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars
Jupiter and Saturn, Uranus and Neptune

The sun is a ball a hot burning gas

In the middle of solar system
Mercury and Venus are very hot,
They are the closest to the sun

Earth is the planet where we live

With water to everyone
Mars has big volcanoes
Its smaller than the earth

Jupiter is the biggest, it’s spins very fast

Then there Saturn with rings of ice and moons
Saturn is made of gas, so it’s the lightest too
Yayayayayaya Uranus where summer and winter last 20 years

Neptune is furthest from the sun

So it’s absolutely freezing cold.
Blast OFF!
B. Activity
The class will be group into four. Each group is given a puzzle that
they must solve, and then they will guess the picture and the will
going to discuss it. One representative of each group will present it
in the class.
C. Analysis
The teacher will identify the picture being solved by the pupils. The
teacher will describe and discuss it in the class.
D. Abstraction

E. Application
The teacher will ask the pupils on how they can show care of our
planet earth. The teacher will tell the things on how to care our
planet earth in the class.
