We Want to Know More About You!


   
1. Why did you decide to become an au pair?
Because I want to improve my English and also, I want to be part of a American family, I wish to know new
country and different culture.

2. What characteristics or skills do you feel are most important to have in order to be a successful au pair?
In order to be a good Au Pair, it is very important to be patient, because sometimes children are complicated, also
need to be carefully, organized, punctual, responsible.

3. What types of rules do you think you will have living with your host family (a curfew, no
drinking, loud music, cleaning up after yourself, etc.)?

I think the family will control the use of electronics devices, I suppose they don´t like the noise, I
am sure that the alcohol consume it is not allowed, neither the drugs. In most cases families have
an established schedule. I don´t have problems with the rules because in my house I have a lot of
these.

4. How do you envision the typical American family (lifestyle, personality, busy, two-parent family,
suburban house, etc.)?

I think they are very organized, respectful, educated, punctual, the majority of American people is
responsible and very carefully with child. I think that I will learn many of their habits.

5. Describe your ideal host family. How do you see yourself fitting into their lifestyle?
I want to be part of an active family that likes sports and outdoor activities, I like an organized family,
also polite. A family that has a good communication and kind treatment.

6. Please describe what you imagine your typical au pair schedule will be like (i.e. wake children up in
the morning, make them breakfast, etc.)

I think, in the morning I must dress kids or babies, I must take the children to school, after I must
clean children room, besides to do laundry, to prepare healthy meal, in the afternoon play
something, do exercise or do activities with my host kids.

7. If you were at the park with your host child, and he/she fell off the swing and seriously hurt
themselves, what would you do?

First I must stay calm after check the injuries in order to know the severity of it, if I can hand
the situation, I will resolve it, if the situation is very dangerous, I will notice their parents, and
call 911.

8. What would you do if you were placed with a host family and you did not agree with their
discipline style?

I will don’t intervene in their discipline style with kids, when the kids are not present I will talk with
them.

9. How would you handle a disagreement with your host family?

It is depending the kind of disagreement, if the baby does something bad and the parents told me in a
bad way, I will stay calm and after I will talk with them about the situation or the manner of speaking.
I think the best way to solve the problems is through communication. 

11. If two young host children were fighting over a toy, how would you handle the situation?

First, I will contemplate the situation If one of the kids has the toy first, I will offer to the other kid
another toy or another game. I could create a game where they can use the same toy without
problem.

12. What would you do if you were driving and one of your host children took off their seatbelt?

I will stop the car in a save part, I will put it again, because it is very dangerous and I warn them that is
dangerous to remove the seatbelt.

13. Most au pairs feel homesick at some point during their program. What will you do to help yourself
feel at home while you are in the United States?

It will be a challenge for me, because is hard to far from my family, I will hand the situation calling
my family, an trying to be in contact with them

14. Besides homesickness, what other challenges do you think you will have as an au pair and how will you
overcome them?

A major challenge is to try to organize my time working, studying and enjoying my experience
doing everything the best way.
