1 Introduction
This design report consists of the details of material specifications, details of
loads considered over the substructure, description of analysis model and
design basis assumptions along with detailed design calculations for ROBs of
this project.

2 Salient Features and General Arrangement

The typical elevation along with its cross section of staircase is shown in the
figures. The design is carried for the maximum height of the staircase
required in the project scope.
Features:

a) RCC Frame with Open foundation

b) Cantilever length of landing – 1.5m
c) Width of stairs -1.5 m
d) Dimensions of stair „ tread - 300mm” and „rise - 165mm‟

3 Design Parameters
Design parameters that would be applicable for the design of Staircase
system are as follows.

Dead Loads (DL)

The following unit weights are considered
Item Unit Weight
Reinforced Concrete (hardened) 25 kN/m3
Structural Steel 78.5 kN/m

Live Load (LL)

Pedestrian live load has been considered as per IRC: 6 - 2017.

Wind Load (WL)

Wind load analysis has been done as per IS 875 Part III taking basic wind
speed of 47m/s for the superstructure shown and the corresponding reactions
are depicted upon the columns of the building frame.

Seismic Load (WL)

Seismic analysis has been done by response spectrum method taking
following data:
Seismic zone – IV Zone
factor – 0.24
Response reduction factor – 4
Importance Factor – 1.2
Hand Rail Load

2 nos. of 32 NB (Light) 5.1 kg

Post of 32 NB (Medium) of Height 3.0929 kg
Plate of 75 x 75 x 6 0.2649 kg
8.4578 kg
Total 0.084578 kN/sqm
4 Exposure Condition
The condition of exposure has been considered as “Moderate” for the purpose
of design.

5 3D model used for Analysis

A stair structure is modeled for a maximum height of 11 m as a 3-
dimensional with required beams, columns and slabs. Nodes are placed at the
points of interest where forces/ moments need to be extracted. Sectional
properties/ stiffness are assigned to members based on the corresponding
assumed sections. Supports are modeled as fixed point supports based on the
bearing articulation proposed for the structure. Material properties assumed
for different components are assigned to those corresponding members.
6 Design of Building Frame and Foundations
Materials
Concrete :
Grade of concrete = M25
Reinforcing steel
Grade of steel used = Fe 500
Safe Bearing Capacity of Soil
As per site condition, soil bearing pressure has been taken 25 t/m2.

Dead weight of foundation and soil = 0.35*3.5*5.5*25+2*0.5*(3.5+1.11)*1.05*0.3*25+.3*1.275*5.5*25+(1.1*3.5*5.5)*18 = 648.110 kN

Normal force at the centre of the foundation = 638.485+1836.363 = 2977.874 kN
Moment about the centre of foundation in Z direction = 56.788 kN‐m
Moment about the centre of foundation in Y direction = 1607.286 kN‐m

Base pressure contributed by the normal force = 154.695 kN/sqm

Base pressure contributed by the Z direction moment = 3.218 kN/sqm
Base pressure contributed by the Y direction moment = 143.135 kN/sqm

Maximum base pressure = 240.838 kN/sqm

Minimum base pressure = 8.342 kN/sqm
> 0
Hence no tension developed.

Base pressure under wind load and seismic load gets enhanced by 25%, so the calculated base pressure has been normalized
with a value of 1.25 so as to get the base pressure for normal condition.
Hence the maximum base pressure coming out of normal case is = 164.572/9.81 = 24.550 t/sqm

Hence base pressure required at location is 24.55 t/m2.

Check for overturning:

FOS against overturning, y direction = (1836.363+638.485)*2.75/578.592 = 144.206

> 1.500 Hence OK.
#VALUE! 0
FOS against overturning, z direction = (1836.363+638.485)*1.75/510.054 = 3.242
> 1.500 Hence OK.

Check for sliding:

FOS against overturning, y direction = 0.5*(1836.363+638.485)/97.458 = 8.365

> 1.250 Hence OK.

FOS against overturning, z direction = 0.5*(1836.363+638.485)/97.458 = 8.365

> 1.250 Hence OK.
