5.2 Daily (or every 8 working hours) maintenance
A. Check the engine generally.
Before operation each day, generally check the engine for several minutes, in order to find and eliminate
the hidden troubles of the engine, thus avoiding unwanted repair or accidents. After the inspection is
finished, operate the engine as needed.
● Check whether there is any foreign matter on the engine and radiator, such as cleaning cloth, pipe
clip, screw etc., to maintain the engine clean and neat.
● Check various unions and sealing surfaces of the fuel system, cooling system and lubricating
system for leakage; if any leakage is found, immediately eliminate it.
● Check tightening conditions of all hoops and pipe clips on the diesel engine, especially pipe clips of
the fuel system, to ensure that all clips are tightened reliably.
● Check the fan and generator drive belts for looseness and cracking, and check whether the
protection shield is fastened properly.
● Discharge the standing water and deposit from the fuel tank, oil-water separator and the like, and
ensure only clean fuel is supplied to the fuel system.
● Check whether the electric line connectors are loosened, whether the lead wires are intact, and
whether the battery electrolyte level is correct.
C. Fuel tank
Undo t he fuel tank drain valve to discharge the
condensate and deposit in the tank.
D. Check the air filter maintenance indicator

I. Replacement of engine oil and filter
Notices!
● Pay attention to the personal safety when discharging the engine oil and replacing the engine
oil filter, for the hot engine oil and engine block may cause skin injuries.
● Do not discharge the engine oil when the engine is cold, for the particles floating in the engine
oil have been deposited in the bottom of oil pan and adhered onto the inner surface of the oil
pan, and they will not be discharged together with engine oil. When the engine oil is hot, the
foreign matters floating in the engine oil can be easily discharged.
- 57 -
SC11CB Diesel Engine Service Manual
SC11CB diesel engine shall use the diesel engine oil above CF class. Where the engine is used in
the construction machines, the CD-class engine oil can be used instead of CF-class engine oil if
it is unavailable. For most areas in China, it is recommended to use 15W/40CF-4 engine oil. If the
ambient temperature is lower than -15 , to facilitate the startup and provide sufficient engine oil,
10W/40CF-4 engine oil can be selected. In cold regions, if the diesel engine always works at an ambient
temperature of lower than -23℃, and no heat insulation measures are provided after the diesel engine
stops operation, the 5W/50SJ/CF-4 engine oil possessing sufficient low-temperature characteristics
shall be used, or the one-grade oil corresponding to the ambient temperature shall be selected. The
viscosity class of the engine oil mainly depends on the minimum and maximum ambient temperatures
when the diesel engine is working.
The engine oil viscosity and applicable ambient temperatures listed in the table below are used for
reference. Under cold weather conditions, before startup, withdraw the oil dipstick. If the engine oil can
freely drip from the dipstick, the engine oil can be normally circulated; otherwise the viscosity level
corresponding to the lower ambient temperature shall be selected.

(7) With the filler cap opened, start and operate the engine. Increase the cooling liquid temperature,
open the temperature regulator, and stabilize the cooling liquid level. Check whether there is
any leakage and whether the working temperature is normal.
(8) Check the cooling liquid level. If too low, add the correct mixed cooling liquid.
(9) Check the filler cap washer; if damaged, replace it.

6 Chapter VI Troubleshooting
6.1 General requirements on troubleshooting
In the case of diesel engine fault, the user or repairer shall identify features, properties and causes of the
fault through careful observation. If the fault in question will influence the normal and safe operation of
the diesel engine, stop the engine immediately for inspection. If the safety will not be compromised or the
cause can't be identified immediately, unload the diesel engine to have it run at the reduced speed and
zero load, and continue observation and analysis.
The fault is usually resulted by several causes, and is always varying. Only a full and deep insight into
the fault and careful analysis can find out the true cause against which the proper measures shall be
taken.
In this chapter, certain common faults and their possible causes and solutions have been provided for
general guidance and reference. In the operation, do take actual conditions into account. Those
operators who do not know the property or cause of the fault or are unfamiliar with the operation and
maintenance requirements of the diesel engine, do not repair the engine.
Where any major fault occurs, and it is necessary to perform an overall repair on the diesel engine, do
have the engine repaired in the well-equipped workshop other than on the field.

3 There is resistance in the There is water in the fuel, and when the engine is overheated, the
low-pressure fuel pipeline steam may cause air lock. The filter flowing resistance is too high,
and the maintenance work is not performed at the correct time.
Eliminate relevant faults, and replace parts as necessary.
7. Premature wear of engine
No. Cause Solution
1 The engine oil is too dirty Discharge the dirty engine oil, and fill clean and conforming
engine oil into the engine. Renew the engine oil filter.
2 There is air leakage in the Check all gaskets and connectors. If there is air leakage, provide
intake pipeline repair. Avoid entry of dust into the cylinder during repair work.
3 The fuel leaks into the This may cause high fuel consumption and low engine oil
engine oil pressure. Find out the leakage and eliminate it. If necessary,
replace parts in question.
4 The air filter is damaged Replace or refit the qualified air filter. Avoid omission of air filter or
or omitted filter element; otherwise the engine wear will be accelerated.
8. Entry of engine oil into the cooling liquid
