What Is Big Data?: Examples of Big Data: Applications of Big Data in Real Life

Big data refers to extremely large data sets that are too large to be processed using traditional data processing applications. It is characterized by its volume, variety, and velocity. The speaker discusses examples of big data in different industries like education, healthcare, government, and media. They also describe the different types of data - structured, unstructured, and semi-structured data. Some key benefits of big data processing include improved decision making, customer experience, and operational efficiency. Common uses of big data include product development, predictive maintenance, fraud detection, and machine learning.

Assalamualaikum Mem,A very good evening to

you.it’s an honor to be here with you. This Is nusrat

Sharmin here & my student id is 1701010084.i
would like to talk about big data & I believe you’re
really going to enjoy my speech which I am
presenting to you this evening.here I go…
What is Big Data?
Big Data is also data but with a huge size. Big Data is a term used to
describe a collection of data that is huge in volume and yet growing
exponentially with time.

Examples of Big Data: Applications of Big Data in

Real Life

1. Education Industry
2. Healthcare Industry
3. Government Sector
4. Media and Entertainment Industry
5. Transportation Industry
6. Banking Sector
7. Weather Patterns

Types Of Big Data

Structured

Any data that can be stored, accessed and processed in the form of
fixed format is termed as a 'structured' data.

Unstructured

Any data with unknown form or the structure is classified as unstructured

data. In addition to the size being huge, un-structured data poses
multiple challenges in terms of its processing for deriving value out of it.
Semi-structured
Semi-structured data can contain both the forms of data. We can see
semi-structured data as a structured in form but it is actually not defined
with e.g. a table definition in relational DBMS.

Characteristics Of Big Data

(i) Volume – The name Big Data itself is related to a size which is
enormous. Size of data plays a very crucial role in determining value out
of data.

(ii) Variety – The next aspect of Big Data is its variety.Variety refers to
heterogeneous sources and the nature of data, both structured and
unstructured.

(iii) Velocity – The term 'velocity' refers to the speed of generation of

data. How fast the data is generated and processed to meet the
demands, determines real potential in the data.
(iv) Variability – This refers to the inconsistency which can be shown by
the data at times, thus hampering the process of being able to handle
and manage the data effectively.

Benefits of Big Data Processing

Ability to process Big Data brings in multiple benefits, such as-

Businesses can utilize outside intelligence while taking decisions

Access to social data from search engines and sites like facebook,
twitter are enabling organizations to fine tune their business strategies.

Traditional customer feedback systems are getting replaced by new

systems designed with Big Data technologies.

Early identification of risk to the product/services, if any

Better operational efficiency
Big Data Use Cases

Product Development

Companies like Netflix and Procter & Gamble use big data to anticipate
customer demand. They build predictive models for new products and
services by classifying key attributes of past and current products or
services and modeling the relationship between those attributes and the
commercial success of the offerings.

Predictive Maintenance

Factors that can predict mechanical failures may be deeply buried in

structured data, such as the year, make, and model of equipment, as
well as in unstructured data that covers millions of log entries, sensor
data, error messages, and engine temperature.

Customer Experience

The race for customers is on. A clearer view of customer experience is

more possible now than ever before. Big data enables you to gather
data from social media, web visits, call logs, and other sources to
improve the interaction experience and maximize the value delivered.

Fraud and Compliance

When it comes to security, it’s not just a few rogue hackers—you’re up

against entire expert teams. Security landscapes and compliance
requirements are constantly evolving.

Machine Learning

Machine learning is a hot topic right now. And data—specifically big data
—is one of the reasons why. We are now able to teach machines
instead of program them. The availability of big data to train machine
learning models makes that possible.

Operational Efficiency
Operational efficiency may not always make the news, but it’s an area in
which big data is having the most impact. With big data, you can analyze
and assess production, customer feedback and returns, and other
factors to reduce outages and anticipate future demands.
Drive Innovation
Big data can help you innovate by studying interdependencies among
humans, institutions, entities, and process and then determining new
ways to use those insights.

Summary
Big Data is defined as data that is huge in size.

Bigdata is a term used to describe a collection of data that is huge

in size and yet growing exponentially with time.
Improved customer service, better operational efficiency, Better
Decision Making are few advantages of Bigdata
