CAN I GROW MY OWN

FOOD INDOORS?
When thinking about growing food, we often think about large farms and intense labor.
However, even with limited space, you can reap the benefits of fresh veggies!

GROW FROM LEFTOVERS!

Don't throw away your food scraps!

Some produce like Green Onions & Leeks

can be sprouted from the bulbs (end of stem

that is usually thrown away after cutting off

the green tops). Place in warm water for 3

days then relocate to small pot with potting

soil.

This also works similarly for:

Garlic: Place a head of garlic in water

for to grow sprouts that you can eat like

green onions.

Romaine lettuce and Bok Choy: just

place the heart in a bowl with 1/2 inch of

water and change every day until lettuce

sprouts, then place in a large pot with

soil.

Potatoes and Beets: when they begin to

sprout, you can cut them into several

chunks and plant them in a bag or pot of

soil. Each eye (new sprout) can grow a

new veggie!

TIPS
Michigan winters can be harsh and dry for

indoor plants. Mist plants daily to increase

humidity.

Get Creative! Use containers you have

around the house like mason jars, aluminum

cans, and reusable tote bags to plant your

veggies.

grow on your windowsill, just the act of tending plants can
improve your mood and reduce depression and anxiety!
Also, its fun!
