With a listening typewriter, what an author says will be autonatically recognised and
displayed in front of him. However, speech recognition is not yet advanced enough to
provide people with a relible listening typewriter. The aim of our experiments was to
determine if an imperfact listening typewriter would be useful for composingletters. Me
phrases are dictated, either in isolated word or in consecutive word. Simolations of
listening typewriters which recogniced either a limited vocabulary or unimited vocabulary
was done. Result indicated that there aer versions, which, were as good a traditional
methods like handwriting and dictating. Isolated word speech with large vocabularies may
provide the basis for a useful listening typewriter
