Beirut Arab University: CVLE 210 Statics

The document contains 8 practice problems for a statics course, focusing on determining resultant forces from multiple concurrent forces. It provides the force magnitudes and direction angles for each problem, asking students to calculate things like the magnitude and direction of the resultant force, or resolving a force into components along different axes. The problems involve forces acting on objects like balloons, beams, rings, and masts in various configurations.

CVLE 210 Statics

1st Semester- Fall 2014-2015 Assignment [1] Due: September 17 - 2014

Problem (1) Determine the magnitude of the resultant force FR = F1 + F2 and its direction, measured
◦ ◦
counterclockwise from the positive x axis. Given: F1 = 300 lb, F2 = 500 lb, θ = 30 , φ = 45 .

Problem (2) A resultant force of 800 lb is necessary to hold the balloon in place. Resolve this force
into components along the tether lines AB and AC, and compute the magnitude of each
◦ ◦
component. Use θ1 = 30 , θ2 = 45 .
Problem (3) The beam is to be hoisted using two chains. Determine the magnitudes of forces FA and FB
acting on each chain in order to develop a resultant force T = 1000 N directed along the positive
◦ ◦
y axis. Use: θ = 20 , θ1 = 40 .

Problem (4) Determine the magnitude of force F so that the resultant FR of the three forces is minimum.

What is the minimum magnitude of FR? Given: F1 = 4KN - F2 = 2KN - θ = 30 .

Problem (5) Three forces act on the ring. Determine the range of values for the magnitude of P so that
the magnitude of the resultant force does not exceed 5000 N. Force P is always directed to the
◦ ◦
right. Given: F1 = 2500N, F2 = 1000N - θ1 = 60 - θ2 = 45 .
Problem (6) : The mast is subjected to the three forces shown. Determine the coordinate angles α1, β1,
γ1 of F1 so that the resultant force (FR = 600N ) acting on the mast is along the +ve x-axis.
Given: F1 = 600N, F2 = 200N – F3 = 300N .

Problem (7) : Three concurrent forces act on the ring. If each has a magnitude of 100 N, express each
force as a Cartesian vector and find the resultant force.

Problem (8) : Determine the magnitudes of the two components of the 600N force, one directed along
the cable Ache other along the axis of strut AB.
