1.4 The Habit of Inferiority

The document discusses transforming one's "default setting" of the habit of inferiority into the habit of ferocity. It notes that people are hardwired for survival and mediocrity rather than living to their full potential. William James is quoted as saying people usually live far within their limits and below their optimal level due to an "inveterate habit - the habit of inferiority to our full self." The document provides actions for reflection on where one currently shows the habit of inferiority and what might cause it, and how they see themselves after transforming that default setting.

The Habit of Inferiority (Integration)

To install The Habit of Ferocity, we need to transform our default setting - the
habit of inferiority.

We are hardwired for survival, for mediocrity, for instant pleasure. We are not
in the habit of living to our full potential. We are in the habit of living way
below our optimal level.

William James said:

“The human individual thus lives usually far within his limits; he possesses
powers of various sorts which he habitually fails to use.  He energizes
below his maximum, and  he behaves below his optimum. ….while in the
rest of us it is only an inveterate habit —  the habit of inferiority to our full
self  — that is bad.”

Actions for Today

1. [Optional] Review your Pre-Assessment test results. Briefly evaluate your
test results/answers - do not analyze too much, trust your instantaneous
judgment. This will give you an idea of which area you may need to focus on
the upcoming weeks. Ask yourself: "Which of the following three components
do I feel most lacking, or need the most attention?"

 Cognition: the act of knowing; “I don't know enough about it.”

 Mindset: your mental models/beliefs; “My mental models don't support
me in this yet.”
 Behavior: your practice and habit; “I have not put any effort or practice
in or I don't have the habit yet”

**Note: to find your assessment result, open the email of your Typeform
results and take them from there.
2. To start transforming your default setting - the habit of inferiority, get
clarity on where you are now. Reflect on these following questions:

 How do you see the habit of inferiority showing up in your life? Recall 1
or 2 recent occasions when you practiced the habit of inferiority.
 What do you think causes this habit that you practice?
 How would you see yourself to be, when you successfully transform
your default setting from the habit of inferiority into the habit of ferocity?

3. Share your thoughts with the Tribe on Day 4.

Before We Move Forward...

1. Tomorrow we will focus on flow.
2. Tomorrow’s video will be the only one that is longer than 20 minutes
and for a very good reason. Prepare, and set aside some focus time.
3. You will understand what flow is, the science behind it, and how to
create peak consciousness.
