Learning Task 0

Statement of Commitment to Sustainable Tourism Development.

1. Commitment to sustainable development of Tourism

1.1 Sustainable tourism development is a leading principle for us in terms of business
management.
1.2 Sustainable Development describe as development that fulfill the needs of the present
without risking the ability of future generations to fulfill their own needs.
1.3 I am dedicated to creating, operating, and marketing tourism in a sustainable manner,
which includes all types of tourism that contribute positively to the natural and cultural
environment, generate benefits for host communities, and do not negatively affect local
people's potential livelihoods.
1.4 I assume that as Sustainable Tourism Developer, I can make a significant contribution to
the development of sustainable tourism. I will make every effort to anticipate and prevent
economic, environmental, social, and cultural loss. I'll work to incorporate these factors into our
operations and activities.
2. Principles of sustainable development of tourism

2.1 I’ve recognize that tourism has the potential to help local economies thrive. I’ve also
acknowledge that tourism may have negative consequences for the economy, environment,
natural resources, social systems, and local cultures. I will work to eliminate or minimize these
impacts in the long run for the benefit of host communities and our industry..
2.2 I am fully committed to follow all applicable local, national, and international laws and
regulations for sustainable development of tourism.
2.3 I reject and strongly discourage types of tourism that are illegal, coercive, or exploitative.
2.4 The environmental, cultural, and social impacts of our activities will be managed and
monitored..
2.5 I will strive to pursue the best practices in all activities - especially with regard to:
 conservation of natural resources (e.g. land, soil, energy, water)
 emissions and waste reduction, minimization, and prevention (e.g. solid and liquid
waste, emissions to air)
 Plants, livestock, habitats, and protected areas must all be preserved. (biodiversity)
 working for and involving local communities and residents
 using local goods and expertise

3. Public awareness and communication

3.1 I want to raise consumer awareness and active participation in the environmental, social,
and cultural environments of the places they visit. I also want to help our consumers and host
communities to have a greater understanding and respect for one another.
3.2 I will make every effort in our public relations and advertisement to encourage behavior and
activities that are consistent with the values of tourism growth that are sustainable.
Learning Task 1

Differentiate between mass tourism and special-interest tourism

Tourism can be divided into two categories: mass tourism and alternative tourism. The term
"mass tourism" refers to the organized movement of large groups of people to specialized
destinations. This is the most common form of tourism because it is also the most cost-effective
way to travel. Some of the most common mass to destinations include Hong Kong, Singapore,
London, Bangkok, Paris, Macau, New York, and Istanbul. Mass tourism, on the other hand, will
raise a lot of revenue for local communities and is the polar opposite of alternative or
sustainable tourism. Alternative tourism comprises small groups or individuals traveling to areas
that are not often visited by tourists. Individual activities and tourists' ability to explore local
culture and climate define alternative tourism. Alternative tourism includes events such as
adventure tours, eco-tours, thematic tours, and other small-scale tourist activities. In
comparison to mass tourism, where your trip is usually organized by someone else, alternative
tourism is an individual experience that you can schedule and build according to your own
preferences. Alternative tourism benefits rural communities by assisting in the construction of
infrastructure.

Learning Task 2

Discuss how sustainability can be incorporated in the five tourism industries

Tourism industry has vast potential in terms of employment and economic growth.
Challenges related to the tourism industry are reduction of energy and greenhouse gas
emissions and water consumption. By disseminating waste management and water-
saving systems, for example, sustainable tourism patterns can help bring about long-
term societal models in local communities. Incentives to conserve cultural heritage are
thought to be one of the most significant intangible benefits that the tourism industry
can provide. Community-based sustainable tourism links the success of an ecotourism
location's sustainability to the management practices of the communities that rely on it
for a living, either directly or indirectly. Sustainable tourism typically entails the
conservation of resources used for tourism purposes. Local awareness also means a
lower barrier to entry into the tourism industry for those whose employment or
livelihoods are impacted by the use of their environment as tourist destinations.
Tourism industry contributes to solving global problems of environmental problems of
climate change and climate change. Employment creation is expected to be reinforced
as investments to increased local sourcing and hiring. Incentives to protect cultural
heritage are estimated to be among the largest intangible benefits that the
sustainability of the tourism industry can do. The industry is estimated to increase
through creation of jobs in related jobs in related to infrastructure and tourism-related
jobs.
Learning Task 3

Compare the factors that affect tourism locally (i.e., historical events,
technology, security, currency issues).

Without a doubt, the tourism industry is one of the industries that has been
severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. According to the World Tourism
Organization, the closure of borders, airports, and hotels, as well as limits on mass
gatherings, land travel, and related services, affects 100 to 120 million jobs globally.
International tourist arrivals fell by 22% in the first quarter of 2020, when most
countries implemented travel restrictions and lockdowns, resulting in an approximate
loss of US $80 billion in global tourism receipts.

In the Philippines, the government closed the airports in Luzon as part of the
Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) that started in the island. Domestic tourists, on
the other hand, also limited their travel for fear of contracting COVID-19. The
Department of Tourism reported that international tourist receipts in the first quarter of
the year declined to PHP85bn, 36% lower than the revenues in the same period last
year. In a survey, 97% of the respondents say that Covid-19 has the potential for
significant impact on their business operations, and is causing them great concern.
Because of the low demand and restrictions, majority of the respondent say that they
temporarily stopped offering a service/product, reduced their level of operations and
reduced the employee headcount.

The tourism industry has played a significant role in the growth of the country.
Among these factors culture, peace, security, developed infrastructure of the world,
natural beautification, attitude of the people, tourist number, Quarantine, population,
Education, Income level, and Price level of different commodities in the world are the
well-known factors which affect the tourism industry positively and negatively in or
country. Similarly on one side these factors push the tourism industry in the short and
long run positively and negatively while on the other side affect the economic growth of
the economy of our country negatively and positively.
Study Guide 2

Learning Task 1

Explain environmental sustainability.

Environmental sustainability includes working responsibly with the environment

in order to preserve natural resources and prevent risking future generations' ability to
meet their needs. A stroll along the beach or a hike in the woods reminds us that our
forests, coral reefs, and even deserts serve as examples for sustainable systems.
Environmental sustainability is the capacity to improve the quality of human life while
living within the carrying capacity of the earth's supporting ecosystems. Sustainability is
about stabilizing the currently disruptive relationship between earth's two most complex
systems: human culture and the living world. The UN's definition has been expanded
over the years to include non-economic variables, such as education and health, clean
air and water, and the protection of natural beauty. The work of which is driven by the
fact that global production and consumption patterns are destroying nature at
persistent and dangerously high rates.

Learning Task 2

Explain the local ecosystems and natural environments as they relate to

sustainable tourism.

Sustainable tourism benefits local communities by fostering economic development, job

creation, and infrastructure development. Tourism revenues contribute to economic
growth and prosperity in popular tourist destinations, which can help to raise the
standard of living in destination communities. Ecotourism helps preserve and foster
respect for some of the most beautiful environments on Earth. It encourages travellers
to help protect the environment and contribute to local communities on a much deeper
level than the tourists just passing through. Tourism is reliant on the environment than
other industry. As a result, environmental issues, such as biodiversity loss, pollution,
global warming, waste accumulation, and natural resource depletion, have an impact on
tourism just as much as other global issues, such as the economic crisis or terrorism.

Learning Task 3

Compare the environmental issues versus social and human rights issues.

The environment is critical to the sustainability of life as we know it on Earth. All living
things rely on the resources of the planet to survive, and if humans continue to pollute
and over-use these resources, they may be completely destroyed or depleted in a
matter of years. Environmental issues have reached new heights, affecting economies
and policies all over the world. Our country is just one of many countries suffering from
and contributing to these effects. Air pollution, deforestation and depletion of resources
are just some of the issues facing the country. The nation is beginning to recognize and
address environmental issues within its borders. We take a closer look at how the
country may be exacerbating these problems and what the country can do to resolve
them. The country's rapid growth has led to a troubling rise in deforestation. Concern
for human rights is central to many of the contemporary world's most important
challenges. From environmental protests, debates about the nature of sustainable
development, human rights are never far from the spotlight. The right to a clean and
healthy environment was left out of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It was
drafted before the advent of the modern environmental movement in 1970. For the
right to have a safe, secure, and sustainable world. It accomplishes this by assisting in
making the case that such recognition would have real-world practical value – both in
terms of better protecting and promoting individual human rights, as well as in terms of
protecting and conserving the natural environment.

Study Guide 3

Learning Task 1

Explain the technology application in the development and management of

tourism.

In these tough economic times, the hospitality industry, which includes tourism and
travel, is faced with a difficult issue. Technology has the significant benefit of allowing
tourism industries to substitute costly human labor with technical labor, lowering labor
costs while still minimizing customer service issues. However, technology can bring
about a whole new set of unintended consequences. Technology plays an important
role in tourism and travel. Travelers use more technology than ever before, but many
hotels charge extra for phone calls and internet access. Technology is used to provide
less personalized service and generate additional revenue. Despite the misuse of
technology, tourism and travel are highly dependent on technology. There is no doubt
that the cell phone has become a major part of our lives. The inconvenience of
someone speaking too loud on a cell phone is more than outweighed by the safety,
security and convenience that cell phones bring to most of us. Technology has been
used as a way to increase revenues and to lessen customer service. When used
ethically, technology can be a great help in increasing communication and security. The
world of technology has made air travel safe and abundant but has also brought about
the need to go through long security lines and daily hassles.

Learning Task 2

Distinguish the advantage and disadvantage of technology in tourism.

The hospitality, travel, and tourism industry is one of the leading industries that has
seen further changes implemented with the help of technology. Technology's
advantages in the tourism industry are important, and it has effectively brought far-
flung locations closer together. IT applications, software, smartphone apps, and other
innovations have aided in the development of a fast and progressive tourism industry.
Today, humans use creativity to prepare their journeys, which causes it to become
more nihilistic. The speed of time has improved its standards; sooner or later, an
encounter might be very commonplace these days, and the journey is convenient and
fast. It is an important process for the general public because it makes life less time-
consuming and more difficult to maintain. The flood of improvement and
industrialization has infected our climate, which is one of the disadvantages of
technology development in travel and tourism. Technology often causes financial
difficulties in households since the majority of technology, such as computers, is
expensive. The significance of innovation within the movement and the tour industry is
to obtain information through analysis, to assist in increasing the company's earnings,
and to obtain information from its customers. And the worst part about innovation is
that it has the potential to cause war and stress, as well as a lack of trust that can lead
to a loss of business profitability.
Learning Task 3

Propose a possible solution in the impacts of technology in tourism.

Information Technology has played an important role in the hospitality and tourism
industry over the last decade. One way that IT continues to improve the hospitality and
tourism industry is Internet or online marketing. The internet has a major influence on
the hospitality and tourism industries. A customer's first interaction with your company
is via your website. A company's ability to successfully use online ads, social media,
blogs, and online shopping is crucial. The process of promoting a company or brand
over the internet using resources that help drive traffic, leads, and sales is known as
internet marketing. Through online marketing it helps you get recognized online, but it
can also change how potential customers view your business. Ranked high in search
engine results pages alongside reputable industry authorities, for example, immediately
increases the company's reputation.

Study Guide 4

Learning Task 1

Explain the importance of providing excellent customer service in travel and

tourism organisations

Customers are the most important part of any travel and tourism business. There are
certain basic customer service principles that all staff must be made aware of. These
include dealing with complaints and problems, speed and accuracy of service,
consistency, products and services offered, meeting customer needs and exceeding
customer expectations. It is vital that customers are looked after well and given the
highest standards of service. In the tourism and hospitality industry, the success or
failure of our businesses and destinations depends on service. Service influences such
as staff attitude, pacing, and order of services rendered have a significant impact on
guest satisfaction. It proved that the higher the customer satisfaction, the higher the
sales for a given hospitality company, and that in the guest-purchase decision, service
is much more important than price and place. A excellent customer service experience
is one in which the customer feels appreciated or understood. It's sometimes an
intangible factor in a guest's decision to choose one tourism or hospitality company
over another. You can't really put your finger on what makes good customer service,
but you know it when you see it. And it's a crucial component of tourism's growth, both
in terms of meeting ever-increasing customer demands and in terms of attracting new
visitors and as a way to achieve business profitability.

Learning Task 2

Discuss the customer service skills required to meet customer needs in travel
and tourism contexts

It is said that dealing with customers is simple, but dealing with them
successfully is difficult! Gaining a variety of skills that contribute to a meaningful
relationship between customers and employees is the secret to successful customer
service. Communication skills, presentation skills, teamwork skills, business skills, and
complaint management are all covered in depth in the following parts to meet customer
need in travel and tourism context.
Communication in travel and tourism takes place face-to-face, by telephone, in
writing and electronically. It is important to use the appropriate method of
communication for a given situation. Written communication, perhaps a letter or
internal memo tends to be more formal. Ground rules: Don't interrupt the customer;
always smile when you greet the customer. Always thank the customer when
appropriate. If a customer wants a quick reply, e-mail is very useful ways of
transmitting information speedily.

Customer service is important to all organizations in the travel and tourism

industry. Excellent customer service leads to a high level of satisfaction, which
encourages customers to return and recommend the company to others.
