This research aimed to determine the effect of tourism related


business in Bauang, La Union. Specifically, it sought answers to the
following: What is the profile of the respondents, in terms of the
following: a. Age; b. Gender; c. Civil Status; d. Highest Educational
Attainment; e. Monthly Income and f. Types of Establishments? 2. What
is the effect of tourism to the community of Bauang, La Union in terms of
the following: a. Employment Opportunities; b. Improvement of the areas
appearance; and c. Income Support? 3. What is the level of satisfaction
on the tourist attractions along: a. Services; b. Products ; and c.
Amenities? 4. Is there a significant relationship between the profile of the
respondents and the effects of tourism to the community of Bauang, La
Union in terms of the following: a. Employment Opportunities; b.
Improvement of the areas appearance; c. Income Support?
The researchers used a survey research design because it is best to
answer questions put in the questionnaire and to achieve the purpose of
this study. The purpose of the study was explained at the beginning of
the questionnaire and included a screening question which allowed only
respondents working in the tourist attraction in Bauang, La Union to
participate in the study.
Based on the data presented, analyze and findings of the study,
the researchers deduced the following conclusions: 1. The greater the
part of the respondents are 31 years old and above, most of them are
female. And more than half of them are single with a monthly income of
0-10,000. And the higher type of tourist attraction is agri-tourism with
38%. 2. On the effect of tourism to the community of Bauang, La
Union along employment opportunities, “Creates new business
opportunities” is the highest having a mean value of 3.1 with a
descriptive rating of “good”. This is a manifestation, that tourism can
develop business in the community of Bauang. On the other hand, along
improvement of the areas appearance, “Maintaining the cleanliness of

the tourist spot” is the highest that is perceived by the respondents


having a mean of 2.95 with a descriptive rating of “good”. This implies
that tourism can be a help in the development and improvement in the
locality. And lastly on the income support “It helps the economic status
of Bauang, La Union to grow” having a mean of 3.5 and a descriptive
rating of “excellent”. This indicates that tourism can provide income and
can support the improvement of the tourist attractions and the economy
of Bauang, La Union. 3. The overall level of satisfaction on the tourist
attractions’ services, products and amenities is “Moderately Satisfied”
with a mean of 2.61. This imply that the tourist attraction can satisfy
the overall needs of the visitors. 4.The relationship between the profile of
the respondents and the effect of tourism to the community of Bauang,
La Union are statistically not significant. The profile of the respondents
like age, gender, civil status, monthly income and type of establishments
have no effect on the tourist attractions. On the other hand, the
relationship between the profile of the respondents and the level of
satisfaction on the tourist attractions’ services products and amenities
are statistically not significant. This implies that the profile of the
respondents and the level of satisfaction are not related or has no effect

the other hand, the relationship between the profile of the respondents
and the level of satisfaction on the tourist attractions’ services products
and amenities are statistically not significant. This implies that the
profile of the respondents and the level of satisfaction are not related or
has no effect to each other.
Based on the findings and conclusions drawn, the following
recommendations are proposed: 1. On the employment opportunities
LGU must help the business to make the business grow that can help in
creating more jobs and opportunities to the community of Bauang, La
Union. 2. On the improvement of the areas appearance, the LGU should
make a plan on how to improve and make Bauang a place that every will
be interested to visit. They should make new or fix the infrastructure in
Bauang, La Union. 3. On income support, the different tourist
attractions should also hire additional employees to those people who are
in need within their community to finance their families. And the LGU
should help the small entrepreneurs to create more jobs. 4. On services,
the LGU or the owners should conduct seminars/trainings that can
improve abilities, on how to have a harmonious relationship with the
tourist. 5. On products, the owner of the business must improve or
create a new product that will attract new customers. 6. Amenities,
the owner of the business must develop or improve their facilities and
maintain the cleanliness of the area.
