CONTENT FOR NEWSLETTER

BCA DEPARTMENT

I have great pleasure being associated with faculty of computer science to look forward in
bringing laurels to BCA students and ultimately to the institute. The Department of computer
science established in the year 2007 affiliated to Bangalore North University. The core objective
of our BCA course in our campus is to enrich the students to be technically competent and to
excel in communication to help achieve student’s career aspirations in corporate sectors. Our
department lay the foundation to understand mathematical concepts to gain exposure to computer
science and its applications. To enable them to familiarize with the advanced software tools,
department conducts periodical seminar, IT competitions, industrial visit and value added
programs which help them to keep abreast of technological advancements. The faculty team will
handle adequate theory and practical sessions through latest audio-visuals to make them feel at
ease while delivering the content. Students are encouraged to focus on higher studies through
online education, online exams, scientific research publications, conference presentations to get
specialization in any contemporary area of computer science. In addition to that, the multi-
cultural environment assists students to solve a wide range of complex scientific, technological
and social problems. The department initiated to promote innovative research in computer
science and multidisciplinary areas.

GUEST LECTURES:

The Department of BCA has organized a series of guest lectures for students with objectives of
IT Domain by different resource person starting from the topic “Walkthrough on advance
technologies” by Mr. Ankush Raina on 31st July 2020. Next “Global Opportunities” on 12 th
September 2020 by Mr. Santhosh Kumar (COO of GoQuest Media Venture).Then “Design
Thinking + Corporate innovation” on 3rd October 2020 by Mr. Suresh (Product Designer).During
the month of November Guest lecture by Dr. Ambika N from SSMRV college on a topic “IOT
and Application” and “Cross Platform Mobile App Development” by Mr.Vinesh Kumar (Senior
Software Developer)

Even Guest lecture was given by student on “One Step Forward to Become a Real software
Engineer” by Mr Jishnu Raj P P (II BCA) on 17 th October 2020. The objective of Guest lecture
was to understand the concept and its impact on Student Awareness towards IT.
INDUSTRIAL VISITS:

Department of Computer Science Organized the Industrial visit to C-DAC facility On 6"August
2019. Students of V Semester BCA has visited facility. C-DAC Industrial Visit Co-Ordinator
Mrs. Divya Explained about the Super Computer and grid Computing Technology.

PARAM is a series of supercomputers designed and assembled by the Centre for Development
of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) in India. The latest machine in the series is the PARAM
SHIVAY Param means supreme in Sanskrit Language. PARAM Padma (Padma means Lotus in
Sanskrit) was introduced in April 2003. It had a peak speed of 1024 GFLOPS (about 1 TFLOP)
and a peak storage of 1 TB. It used 248 IBM Power4 CPUS of GHz each. The operating system
was IBM AIX 5.1L.It used PARAMnet II. And it was very interactive session and was a good
experience for students

BCA DEPARTMENT IT CLUB ACTIVITIES:

The Department of BCA, KIMs as part of Scintilla IT Club-Season 8 had organized IT Quiz
Competition for all BCA students on 17th and 22nd February 2021. The activity was coordinated by
Prof. Syed Faizal and Prof. Parvathy J. 68 students across all semesters from the department took
part in the event. The event conducted in two rounds and in first round 17 teams participated. Six
teams qualified for the final round of quiz and from that 2 teams won. The event was successfully
conducted in class room and in auditorium. First place bagged by Jishnu Raj P P (BCA -III Sem
‘A’) and team, Second place by Sherine (BCA, III-Sem, 'B' Sec) and team.

CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

The department of Computer Application inaugurated CSR Activity on 24th August 2019
between 2.30-3.30 Noon in the KGI Seminar Hall 1 and the Chief guest was Dr.DMuralidar,Poet
and Crtic. The inauguration was started with lighting the Lamb by the dignitaries,
Dr.DMuralidar,Poet and Crtic,Dr.A Ravi, Director Academics,KIMS and Prof.Shweta V D
„HOD,Department of Computer Applications,KIMS followed by the prayer song by Mr. Albin K
Matheyw and Team.,The welcome address was given by Ms. Slipa S, followed by the
dignitaries' speech on motivating the department to do more CSR Activities.

The training kits were distribuțed to children by Chief Guest and Academic Director for their 24
hours training in basic of computer in KIMS. The inauguration came to an end with Vote of
thanks by Mr.Gerard Lucas and followed by National Anthem.

After the small refreshment the children were taught in computer lab how to switch on the
system, how to hold the mouse and to type with the keyboard by BCA department faculties and
Students.
ADD ON PROGRAM:

MBA Students have the opportunity to take up any value Added add on programs like Advanced
Excel, Business presentation, Digital marketing, HR Analytics, Financial risk management,
Logistics and Health care management with an objective to provide better placements and
internships .

EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING:

Experiential learning is the process of learning through experience, and is more specifically
defined as "learning through reflection on doing". Faculty members of the MBA department
prepare the students to relate the concepts into live situations practically through case studies,
Management games, role play, Presentations, projects, surveys, Mock Interviews, Group
activities, Quiz, classroom discussions, simulation, Industry visits and others. Experiential
learning capsules are prepared for every semester after discussing the topic through
brainstorming. Every faculty expert in the specific subject comes with their idea on the topic
given for the discussion. Best idea will be screened by the committee and added to the EL
capsule for editing. Faculty members carry out the experiential learning as per their subjects
mentioned in their regular classes and award the best students for their performance.

STUDENT EXCHANGE PROGRAM :

The Department of MBA had organized a student exchange program for SNS College of Engineering for
three days from 16th to 18th November 2019. Student exchange program gives an opportunity for
students and faculty members to understand the inter cultural learning aspects and methods adopted by
other institutions to train the students for competitive jobs. It was indeed a great privilege for having 41
students and 4 faculty members from SNS College of Engineering to be a part of Koshys family for three
days. The SEP was inaugurated by the chief guest Dr. Asoke thiyagarajan – CEO of Westminster
health care Lyca group, London, UK. Sir addressed the gathering on opportunities, career growth
and technological advancements in the Health sector. Mr. Chndrashekar menon , Founder CEO
Health Net international Inc from Coimbatore Tamilnadu addressed the gathering on
Motivational aspects and business case studies. The Institutional profile of both the Institutions
were presented by the respective department Heads. Mr. Alok Keshari- Founder and CEO Of
Alok Keshri solutions who is also a Motivational speaker and corporate trainer addressed the
gathering on Personality development, Communication skills, Interview tips, Grooming, time
management, Goal setting, confidence building, and Attitude. Cultural program was organised
for students to showcase their talent. Students also participated in the cultural programs like
song, dance and fashion show followed by dance floor.

Mr. Bolanath Dutta , Founder Pesident and CEO, MTC Global Bangalore addressed the session
on Entrepreneurship and business plan Through activity sessions where the business plans of
each teams were presented by the team leader and the moderator guided the teams on their
business plan writing, elements of business plan , Market research, assessing the opportunities
and threats through SWOT analysis, Licensing procedures and marketing plan.
Management games were organised for students to enhance the team building Skills, leadership
skills, analysing capability, Quick decision making and communication skills through games like
Creating tallest tower, Balloon chain and others. Valedictory session was organised at the end
where both the institutions exchanged their Memento and expressed their views followed by
student feedback.

INTERNATIONAL WEBINAR:

The Department of MBA had organized a three day international webinar on : “Rediscovering
Experiential learning scope and challenges in higher education” on 6 th, 7th and 8th July 2020.
Delegates across the globe connected with 500 plus participants and shared their expertise
knowledge on pedagogical approaches with special emphasis on Experiential learning in higher
educations. Chief guest for the international webinar was Dr. Venkatesh murthy, Registrar ,
BNU, Keynote address was given by Dr. P Saravanan from IIM Trichy, and the chief guest for
the day was Dr. Santosh P Koshy. On Day One Dr. P Saravanan Discussed about the Case study
method of teaching. On Day two Dr. Stephen P Alessandro, Executive Director, Advenio E
academy from Malta, Europe shared his expertise view on Innovation and E-Learning. On Day-3
Dr. MaryLou G , Dean of international programs, Professor of business administration, and
international programs Ottawa University, USA Shared her views on rediscovering Experiential
learning and transforming global leadership followed by expert talk on Experiential learning
practices and guidelines by Dr. Karla Engel from Ottawa university.
