5 Settlement of accounts
The specifications of clause 5 of DIN 18299 shall be supplemented as follows.

5.1 General
5.1.1 Irrespective of whether the dimensions used to determine the work are taken from actual measurements
or drawings, accounting shall be based on the following.
5.1.1.1 For internal wall cladding, flooring, levelling, separating and insulating layers, sub-bases, surface
treatment, reinforcement, supporting structures and substructures, accounting shall be based on:
a) the dimensions of the surface to be covered, up to the boundaries formed by the unclad, uninsulated,
unplastered or uncovered boundary components, for surfaces bounded by components;
b) the dimensions of the area to be covered, for surfaces not bounded by components.
5.1.1.2 For wall cladding that connects to plinths or which is installed directly on top of the flooring, accounting
shall be based on the dimensions of the covered area from the top of the plinth or flooring.
5.1.1.3 For external wall cladding, accounting shall be based on the cladded area.
5.1.2 When accounting by length, the maximum length of the component or unit shall be measured. Where
units are used in combination, the total length shall be the sum of each unit plus the width of the joints between
units.
Sloping plinths and stepped plinths shall be measured according to their developed length from the top to
bottom edge.
5.1.3 When accounting by area, worked reveals and worked exposed end faces shall, but joints shall not, be
accounted for separately.
Single components (e.g. flashings, window sills) less than 20 cm wide shall be regarded as being 20 cm wide,
and those less than 0,25 m 2 in area, as having an area of 0,25 m2 . Where the surface of single slabs and units
is non-rectangular or mitred, the area of the smallest circumscribed rectangle shall be measured. Recesses and
openings in single slabs and units shall be disregarded.
5.1.4 Where units or masonry are used in combination and accounted for by volume, joints shall not be
accounted for separately. In the case of walling with two exposed faces, any intermediate layers shall be
disregarded.
Units shall be accounted for on the basis of the volume of the smallest parallelepiped which could accommodate
the unit in its natural position; a minimum of 0,03 m3 shall be charged for.

5.2 Deductions
Deductions shall be made for the following items.

5.2.1 When accounting by area (m2 ), deductions shall be made for recesses and openings individually
measuring more than 0,1 m².
5.2.2 When accounting by length (m), deductions shall be made for interruptions individually measuring more
than 1 m.
5.2.3 When accounting by volume (m3), deductions shall be made for recesses, openings, niches, and
penetrating, connecting or built-in components individually measuring more than 0,5 m3, and for chases for
conduits and the like with a cross-sectional area of more than 0,1 m2 .
