3.1 ENGINE
NOTE
Audio activated when NG drops below 50%.
Engine instruments indicate power loss.
MFD switches to ENGINE page.
NR decreasing with RPM warning light
and audio on when NR drops below 95%.
• PROCEDURE:
1. Maintain heading and attitude control.
2. Collective — Adjust to control NR and rate of descent.
NOTE
Amplitude of collective movement is a function of height
above ground.
Any forward airspeed will aid in ability to cushion
landing.
3. Collective - Increase prior to ground
contact to cushion landing.
4. Complete helicopter shutdown.
SEVERITY OF COMPRESSOR
STALLS WILL DICTATE IF ENGINE
SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN AND
TREATED AS AN ENGINE FAILURE.
VIOLENT STALLS CAN CAUSE
DAMAGE TO ENGINE AND DRIVE
SYSTEM COMPONENTS AND MUST
BE HANDLED AS AN EMERGENCY
CONDITION. STALLS OF A LESS
SEVERE NATURE (ONE OR TWO
LOW INTENSITY POPS) MAY
PERMIT CONTINUED OPERATION
OF ENGINE AT A REDUCED POWER
LEVEL, AVOIDING CONDITION THAT
RESULTED IN COMPRESSOR
STALL.
• INDICATIONS:
Engine pops.
High or erratic MGT.
Decreasing or erratic NG or NP.
PSI oscillations.
• PROCEDURE:
1. Collective - Reduce power, maintain 60 kts.
2. PSI — Check for normal indications.
3. BLEED AIR — ON.
4. Collective — Increase slowly to achieve desired power
level (if possible).
5. PSI — Monitor for normal response.
• PROCEDURE:
1. Monitor engine oil temperature and pressure.
2. Land as soon as practical.
3. Applicable maintenance required.
WARNING
FAILURE OF MAIN DRIVESHAFT TO
TRANSMISSION WILL RESULT IN
COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER TO
MAIN ROTOR. ALTHOUGH COCKPIT
INDICATIONS FOR A DRIVESHAFT
FAILURE ARE SIMILAR TO AN
ENGINE OVERSPEED, IT IS
IMPERATIVE THAT AUTOROTATIVE
FLIGHT PROCEDURES BE
ESTABLISHED IMMEDIATELY.
FAILURE TO REACT IMMEDIATELY
TO LOW RPM AUDIO, RPM LIGHT,
AND NR/NP TACHOMETER CAN
RESULT IN LOSS OF CONTROL.
• INDICATIONS:
Left yaw.
WARNING
ENGINE POWER OUTPUT WILL BE
DEPENDENT ON FLIGHT PROFILE
(TAKEOFF, CLIMB, CRUISE, OR
DESCENT) AND POWER SETTING
AT TIME OF FAILURE.
• INDICATIONS:
ECU fail voice message.
ECU FAIL
3.2. FIRE
• PROCEDURE:
1. Adjust power and airspeed to a value where a
comfortable yaw angle can be maintained.
2. Fly to the nearest suitable landing.
3. Do approach while maintaining left yaw.
4. On final approach, decrease airspeed and increase power
while applying left pedal to maintain minimum side slip.
5. Maintain minimum sideslip and land with forward speed.
• INDICATIONS:
Grinding or howling noise from pump.
Increase in force required to move flight controls.
Feedback forces may be evident during flight control
movement.
• PROCEDURE:
1. Adjust airspeed to 50 to 80 KIAS.
2. HYD SYS — OFF.
3. For extended flight set comfortable airspeed, 100 KIAS
is recommended to minimize control forces.
4. Land as soon as practical.
5. A run-on landing at effective translational lift speed
(approximately 15 knots) is recommended.
• INDICATIONS:
• INDICATIONS:
PFD airspeed indicator — AIRSPEED
FAIL message and a red X displayed.
PFD altimeter — ALTITUDE FAIL message and a barometric
altitude replaced by magenta geometric altitude.
PFD vertical speed indicator — VERT
SPEED FAIL message and a red X displayed.
PFD OAT indicator — OAT message and a red X displayed.
ATTITUDE indicator message and red X displayed.
Heading indicator message, red X displayed and GPS
TRACK displayed in magenta.
• PROCEDURE:
1. Use standby compass, airspeed, attitude and altimeter
indicators.
2. Land as soon as practical.
• INDICATIONS:
Garmin advisory message.
Red X across COM 1 and NAV 1 frequency field.
Loss of GPS 1.
• PROCEDURE:
NOTE
Secondary failure may not be
displayed. Refer to Table 3-5 for the
list of affected systems.
1. Use alternate COM/NAV as required
(if installed).
2. Land as soon as practical.
• INDICATIONS:
Garmin advisory message.
Red X across the following fields on the
PFD:
Fuel quantity
Transmission oil pressure/ temperature
Generator amps
Bus voltage
• PROCEDURE:
NOTE
Secondary failure may not be
displayed. Refer to Table 3-5 for the
list of affected systems.
1. Land as soon as practical.
NOTE
During a complete electrical failure,
the ECU will target and maintain 104% NP.
• INDICATIONS:
All instruments and systems OFF except for standby
instrument
• PROCEDURE:
1. BATT — cycle OFF then ON
2. GEN — cycle OFF then ON
3. If electrical power is not restored
a. Use standby compass, airspeed, attitude and altimeter
indicators.
NOTE
Refer to the airspeed limitation placard for actual VNE.
NOTE
If item 1 of Paragraph 2-4-A was not performed before the
flight, the standby instrument will initiate an
automatic power OFF sequence when the airspeed is
reduced below 30 KIAS. Use the control knob to
select ON within 60 seconds if continued operation is
desired.
b. Land as soon as possible.
NOTE
The EMERGENCY FUEL SHUTOFF
can be used to shut the engine
OFF if the engine switch is not
functional. Expect a delay of 5 to 15
seconds between actuation of the
EMERGENCY FUEL SHUTOFF and
engine shutdown.
