Part 1
1a) Cultural Transmission. This feature is
used to explain when a person or child is
exposed to a language that they will then start
to speak that language.

1b) Displacement. This feature allows people


to have a conversation about events that did
not take place in the immediate environment.

1c) Cultural transmission- a child may have


isiZulu speaking parents, but is she is enrolled
in a school that speaks and learns in English
she will then naturally acquire the ability to
speak English.

Displacement – Helps us to talk about


things that are not here or not here now.
( Grandpa likes telling stories about the time
when children where active.)

3a) Transitive verbs only makes sense if it
exerts it is action on an object. An intransitive
verb does not need an action on an object to
make sense.
3b) Grace kicked the car (Transitive)
Grace laughed(Intransitive)
3c) The difference between regular and
irregular verbs is regular verbs have their past
and perfective tenses very similar to their
present tenses while irregular verbs have their
past and past perfective tenses very varying to
their present tenses.
3d) Regular: walk- walked
Irregular: drink- drank
3e) Finite verbs are base words that can
change to show the difference between

present and past tense, but Non-finite verbs


does not show the tense differences.

1a) Past tense
1b) The writer uses past tense when writing
about the Elder Price. The story starts with
‘had been tossed’ telling me that the story is
in the past. Word like handed, pulled and
streamed is also a clear sign of past tense.

4a) Had been tossed. It had disappeared. Had
found earlier.
