Class 6 Literature: Lenny’s Red Letter Day (Important Points)

1. Red letter day meaning- Important day/special day/Memorable day

2. Writer : Bernard Ashley (a British author)
3. Narrator in the story: Prakash Patel (Lenny’s classmate)
4. Setting: Morning in the school of Prakashand Lenny in a town in England (We can say
England as there is mention of ‘Pound’ for the amount of the postal order and the
British custom for kids to give bumps on birthdays of their friends)
5. Subject: The story is about two boys of different social and financial backgrounds.
6. Theme: Do not judge a book by its cover. (Prakash thought Lenny stole his sister’s postal
order without any proof because Lenny was from a poor family and he did not even
consider Lenny as his friend, rather he thought Lenny was below his standard and
needed his kindness).
7. Monopoly as symbol: Monopoly has symbolical significance here. In monopoly, the
richest person wins the game. It represents the money making concept of our society in
which a person is judged based on his/her financial status as Lenny has been judged by
others in this story.
8. Main characters: Prakash Patel and Lenny Fraser.
