Culvert Checking

This document provides information to check the design of a box culvert under uniform load. It includes geometry data, dead and live load calculations, and checks reinforcement and shear capacity for the top slab. Reinforcement of D13 bars at 200mm spacing is selected. Checks are performed for ultimate moment, crack control criteria, minimum reinforcement, and shear capacity without reinforcement required. The soil friction angle is provided as 35 degrees.

Joseph E. Bowles "Foundation Analysis and Design" Fifth Edition Section 4-3 Table 4-5 Page 226
qult = 5.14*22*(1+0.3+0.4)+15.29
= 207.5 kPa

Unfactored load on bottom slab = 36.8+9.81+162.1 = 208.7 kN

Unfactored base pressure = 208.7 / ( 1.5 * 1.2 ) = 115.9 kN/m2

SF = 207.53 / 115.9
= 1.80 > 1.5… Ok
