Active and Passive Voice Verbs

Active Voice tells us that the subject of the sentence is doing or feeling something

Passive voice tells us that something is being done to the subject of the sentence

Identify the underlined verb in each sentence below as A for active voice or P for
passive voice.

_______ 1. The dog caught the ball.

_______ 2. The ball was caught by the dog.

_______ 3. The teacher taught her students Algebra.

_______ 4. The students were taught Algebra by their teacher.

_______ 5. The book was returned to the library by Ashleigh.

_______ 6. Ashleigh returned the book to the library.

_______ 7. James dropped his phone on the ground.

_______ 8. The phone was dropped on the ground by James.

_______ 9. Kevin bought us tickets for the movies.

_______ 10. Our tickets to the movie were bought by Kevin.

_______ 11. My mom paid for our dinner tonight.

_______ 12. Our dinner tonight was paid for by my mom.

_______ 13. Mr. Keith gave the announcements over the intercom.

_______ 14. The announcements were given over the intercom by Mr. Keith.
